I had stopped ordering from here about 3 years ago since the food was no longer good...I had been a loyal customer since 2016. I have been ordering from all the recommended other sources and they all seem to have gone down lately. I thought I would give Tum Yum another try since their reviews seem to have gone up and since the others were disappointing lately and WOW! They're back! Food was reasonably priced, portions were generous and the quality was exceptional! I'm back to being a loyal customer again!...so happy!
OK...I ordered twice since the 5 star review above. They have no menu to offer and ask you to look online...the prices online are from delivery services and they are elevated prices that the delivery services are charging to cover their expenses...even if you pick up the food...so it is way overpriced! The services add about 20%, or at least 15% to menu prices to cover their expenses...so Tom Yum charges the same for some reason. The quality of the dishes the next two times I ordered was not good. They forgot the sauce for the mediocre pot stickers, the Tom Kha soup was like water with very little flavor, The Lard Nar was inedible...not like anything I have had before and the Shu Mai was full of baby shrimp (not minced) and very fishy tasting...we tossed them. The Pad Thai had no flavor, it was like soggy bean sprouts and bland noodles... So long Tom Yum Cafe. There are better places for less money and higher quality. I get upset when I...
Read moreI am a Thai food enthusiast and local chef so I enjoy trying new restaurants and their take on classic dishes. The north side of Chicago is booming with excellent options for Thai cuisine and I was excited to try a newer one. I was so hopeful coming to this small establishment that looks like a Ma and Pa feel. The guy who took my order was nice but very disappointed that my receipt only showed the total charges instead of items. I ordered the Beef Pad Thai and the Panang curry noodles. Panang Curry Noodles a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and was not combined in the sauce that amount to the consistency of soup…. I was given a box of dry noodles separately from the watered down curry soup! I had to mix it together in which the photos show it just wasn’t curry at all. The soup quickly absorbed the noodles which tasted flavorless. So unhappy $20 plus down the drain for dry noodles and a 3 shrimp soup sauce. Too pricey for what is being offered! Try Joy Noodles or anything else but this! The Pad Thai was okay which is why I gave it a 1 stars! I wish instead I could have given it none. Panang Curry should never taste watery and plain! I know there’s better options in the neighborhood that I will try…. Sorry 😞 but I tossed the dry noodles….Just wasn’t worth it….$35 for 2 entrees that was very dry… Not willing to...
Read moreAs a Thai, this is our go-to place for delicious green papaya salad and some authentic dishes. The shop is small with a few seats but quiet and cozy. Really nice place to unwind as there's not many who actually dine in. The place is run by two people, the chef lady in the kitchen and the gentleman as the cashier and server. It looks to be a popular take-out place so expect extra wait time for dine-in ordered food.
They have a "secret" Thai language menu which has more authentic dishes not typically offered in your neighborhood Thai restaurants. It's one thing to offer authentic dishes and another to make it taste delicious for Thais. Even though I cook Thai food at home, this place will have my money because they can cook certain dishes better than me!
