Really disappointing experience. Food was mediocre and while server was lovely, forgot an item and entrees took forever despite not being all that busy.
The wedge salad was terrible. I order this salad at restaurants often and it's pretty simple. The lettuce used was not a wedge, but a pile of large, touch pieces of lettuce that tasted awful and were hard to eat. The lettuce felt like the outer layers of a head of lettuce. The blue cheese dressing was ok but that's all I can really say about this salad. We also ordered a house salad that never came, even though the server repeated back our total order which included the salad. She apologized and said she didn't get it as part of the order we communicated to her.
Kids food was fine and my wife's half chicken was good, but the "smash burger" was absolutely awful and unacceptable for a major restaurant in a big city known for food. We all know what a smash burger is, and this was not even close. The patties used in the burger were 100% frozen patties. There's nothing you can say to convince we otherwise. I know what a perfectly round, tough, tasteless burger patty looks and tastes like. McDonalds has a better burger.
For a nicer restaurant across from Wrigley, I expect better but as you can see from the reviews, that's not the case. Clearly, this location is just doing the bare minimum being across from the stadium, and it resembles nothing like the Fulton Market location. It's a shame the restaurants around Wrigley don't put as much effort into the food as they should because they know they'll get consistent business with mediocre food and high prices. About par for the course with the team across the street.
Definitely will not be...
Read moreSummary: excellent space with an amazing view and the service was top notch. I’ll be back for drinks for sure. Unfortunately the food was just ok.
Went for brunch and was expecting a solid experience considering this is managed by Boka group, shared a name with one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago and is a newer addition to this part of town.
It felt like they were missing some key items from a breakfast menu. Toast wasn’t on the menu (...odd?), but they could make it for me, which I appreciated. No crab or salmon benedict item on the menu despite the emphasis on their of raw bar. I was disappointed to find they had no full steaks available for breakfast (have steak salad, a sandwich and have actual steaks for dinner, but not even a steak and eggs similar to what Maple and Ash does for those that want to dabble in the true swift and sons experience for brunch).
These were all things I could see going into the brunch because I saw the menu online, so that’s on me. When the actual food and drinks showed up, most of it was fine. Little to nothing excellent and a few things were just bad. Sausage was greasy with no flavor. My bacon was burnt to a blackened crisp. Probably could have exchanged it but the meal only came with 1 strip of bacon so felt like it would be a lot of complaining over very little.
Again, I have to state that the service was excellent and the restaurant is gorgeous with an amazing view of Wrigley field. I’ll stick to the bar next time until they work out their kinks and revisit their brunch menu. Or go visit the real deal in...
Read moreAfter dining at Swift and Sons downtown, we were excited to try the more casual tavern option nearer to our home. Unfortunately, we had several issues with the service and our food. For whatever reason, the host took offense when we opted to sit at the bar versus the small table they selected to seat us at. She immediately went back to the other host and made comments and even shot several glances our way. We just wanted a little more space to enjoy our time there. We tried the happy hour special oysters and the taste was not pleasant. So then we ordered a half dozen of the west coast at full price, hoping for a better experience. They also had a very unpleasant taste. We eat oysters regularly, so this seemed unusual. My spouse's salad had the incorrect cheese (parmesan versus goat cheese). I got a Caesar wedge salad which was buried in ground croutons and topped with strip of bacon. I guess the idea is for the guest to break up the bacon slice with their hands? I would recommend much less crouton and diced bacon. My spouse ordered the salmon, which was overcooked slightly. I got the steak frites. The steak was cooked perfectly, but literally drenched in a heavy sauce. A small amount of that sauce might have enhanced the flavor, but the volume ruined the steak. The fries appeared to be frozen food service variety. The space is beautiful and the bar design is great. I think this place would be fine for a burger and some beers when in the neighborhood, but I would not go back for the food or...
