One mile from Wrigley Field in Chicago’s Lake View community you will find Crisp. My father and I headed to Chicago seven hours before my flight back to Houston to ensure I had time to get popcorn from Garrett’s and find a new wing spot. My dad wasn’t down to explore in Chicago’s traffic, but I was able to work my daddy’s little girl charm and convince him. During our two hour trip from Milwaukee to Chicago I googled and yelped “Best Wings in Chicago.” I read review after review, but couldn’t choose where to go. I decided to let the GPS tell me which of my top three picks were the closest and CRISP it was!
As we headed there I decided to dig a little deeper to find out what Crisp was all about. I was sold after finding out that Chicago Magazine named Crisp’s Korean fried wings “Best Chicken Wings” in 2014. As soon as I walked through the door I saw wings piled high on every plate; I knew then my GPS and I made the right choice!
Their whole wings were amazing, big and crispy! To my surprise my dad even liked them, which is very rare and made the trip worth it. He decided to dip a few wings in their Bud’s Buffalo Suicide sauce which was flavorful and he started sweating immediately. My favorite thing besides the wings were their unique Korean Mom recommended sauces. If you’ve never tried Korean Fried Chicken, Crisp is the place to go!
Also, if you’re like me you automatically think about how many calories you’re consuming every time you eat fried chicken and look for something to make you feel better. Well I found the “something” at Crisp, their chicken is cooked in zero trans-fat oil and is hormone free.
I may fly to Chicago instead of Milwaukee more often just to make sure I can stop by Crisp before heading...
Read moreI've been hearing about this restaurant for some time and haven't had the opportunity to check it out until a couple days ago...I should have gone here sooner. I am a huge fan of Korean food and this joint has some "fire" Korean. Their signature dish is the Korean style chicken wings. The flavor of "these babies" is "off the charts." My buddy and I tried the Sassy Seoul and the Extra Spicy BBQ flavors. The Extra Spicy BBQ flavored wings were really spicy (so much so, that the top of my head was sweating by the time I was finished LoL), but the flavor was insanely good. The "crunch" that the wings gave when you bite into them is undeniable, and just adds to the level of "awesomeness" of these tasty morsels. We also did the Bad Boy Buddha Bowl with steak, which is essentially Korean BiBimBop (this being my favorite "go-to" Korean dish). And it was probably some of the best I have had to date! Overall, everything here was amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone. It is exactly the kind of place I love to find...small, unassuming, word of mouth restaurant, with amazing food!
Just a word of warning to those who enjoy spicy foods...a couple other customers were trying the Suicide Buffalo flavored wings while we were there. They said they were extremely spicy, much more than the Extra Spicy BBQ wings. They had made the statement that the Suicide were almost too spicy to enjoy. Being that people's tolerance to spicy foods differs from person to person, I realize that this may not be the same experience for everyone. All I am saying in reference to that is...Proceed with...
Read moreWe were originally planning on finding something for our Korean cravings, but didn't feel like drive 50 minutes to our spot in the burbs, so we ended up looking at Crisp because of all of the high reviews and we settled for fried chicken and a Bulgogi bowl. In my opinion, knowing just how to make a sugary soy sauce and garlic marinate and serve your food with Kimchee do not qualify anyone to be a Korean joint, just as much as knowing how to roll some rice and cream cheese in a roll calling it sushi qualifies a Japanese sushi joint, fushion or not. But that is most of the places up and down Broadway. We have been to Del Sol just down the road, comparatively speaking, the fried chicken part is about the same, the dark meats are good but the white meat parts are dry, not cardboard dry but it is definitely not juicy. I took a picture of bite. But what makes up for it is the price and the portion. Half a chicken for $11? But $10 for 3 wings? Huh? The $11.95 Bulgogi (Steak) bowl also has very generous portions but the sauce is way too sweet, it is like getting a Bulgogi dish from the candy factory. If you are diabetic, watch out. Maybe you can wash that down with some rice or fries which are also very generous in portion vs. the cost. The other items such as the vegetarian Bibimbop bowls ($19 with meat), sandwiches and burritos will be interesting but I think the flavors and ingrdients won't change so much, just being served in a different form. We might come back to try a few other things but not for our...
