Yellowtail, a sushi restaurant nestled in the Lakeview town of Chicago, has left an indelible mark on my culinary adventures. From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was captivated by its enchanting ambiance and the immersive oceanic experience it offered. Without a doubt, Yellowtail is a haven for sushi enthusiasts seeking a sensory delight. The first thing that caught my attention was the stunning projection of an ocean scene, gracefully displaying a mesmerizing dance of jellyfishes. It was like stepping into a tranquil underwater realm, as if the ocean's gentle sway accompanied each bite. The subtle and calming lighting further enhanced the immersive experience, transporting me to a serene world where time seemed to stand still. The restaurant's decor exuded elegance and sophistication, blending traditional elements with modern touches. The intimate seating arrangement provided a comfortable and intimate dining experience, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the culinary journey ahead. From the delicate texture of the fish to the precise balance of flavors, every bite was a symphony of taste. The chefs at Yellowtail showcased their expertise in presenting a fusion of traditional and contemporary sushi creations, satisfying both the purists and the adventurous diners. Despite the unforgettable experience, I must mention a minor issue that I encountered. On a couple of occasions, I had to repeat my request before it was attended to. However, this was quickly overshadowed by the impeccable service and the overall positive experience I had at Yellowtail. The staff was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable, and their passion for sushi shone through in their attentive and prompt service. In conclusion, Yellowtail stands as a shining beacon for sushi lovers in our city. Read moreHorrible service. They seem to refuse to pause the delivery apps making customers and delivery drivers wait for 45mins or longer after pick up time, for just a single roll and some miso soup, one of the restaurant packers said they were 100 orders deep.
I also overheard one of the hosts tell all the delivery guys they needed to wait outside for orders and inside was for customer only. Extremely degrading and disgusting practices.
The owner didn't seem to care at all about delivery drivers, nor their staff, if they were that slammed with orders. One of the drivers even mentioned that he's talked to the owner, and they told them before that, "if the drivers don't want to wait, he doesn't care just tell them to cancel." Which they get no money for. On Valentines Day when they were going to be busy.
Edit since owners response*
In the owners response they want to act like I was a driver which I clearly stated I wasn’t, again 100 orders deep is insane especially when you are saying yourself that you have a small space. Stop forcing employees to keep the apps on when you can’t fully fill the orders in a a timely manner. And saying since Covid you have had this policy is a ridiculous excuse. Grow up be responsible and treat your staff and drivers that keep your business alive with respect. And stop forcing them to stretch your small space beyond the means. I’m sure the even that chefs are stressed and it’s ridiculous. What...
Read moreInnovative sushi in an eclectic modern atmosphere. We were a party of three and at first I was a bit befuddled by the long and complicated menu that spanned many pages. My partner and I settled on traditional rolls: spicy california roll, spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon crunch roll with tampura, while our friend ordered Chef's special rolls (at about twice the price of the traditional rolls): Fire Dragon roll and Miso Salmon roll. The spicy tuna was my favorite by far, with a large portion of tuna and unusual spicing. For a traditional roll, it was the kind of innovation I like! The California Roll, on the other hand, surprised me in a less pleasing way. It had the traditional imitation crab, avocado and cucumber, but instead of the traditional roe and/or sesame seeds on the outside it had what looked like white panko crumbs with s slightly coconut flavor. The spicy mayo was overpowering and the concoction overall was bland. The menu did not explain what the new ingredient was. The Miso Salmon Roll had complex flavors, though ultimately not memorable, and the spicy salmon crunchroll was OK but did not have the amount of tempura but had only a small ring of tempura rather than the full tempura coating I was expecting. The service was brisk and a bit rushed, and the atmosphere was somewhat bland and noisy. Still, a good place to try...
