Well, it should be of no surprise this review is being left given the experience I unfortunately just went through at Pelican. Let me preface this review of undisputable facts by noting that I have been a long time client of this establishment (previous and current ownership) and even though the service has always lagged, the quality of the food, in a way, justified lacking in the service area. Myself and two other individuals arrived at 12:01 p.m. and sat at the bar. We quickly realized there was only one server (Julie) attending the entire restaurant and yes, service was frantic. After being there for over 30 minutes our orders were taken (including drinks). Given how delayed things appear, we three opted for simple things. I ordered the "Rebel" burger "smashed". My order was not the only order to come out incorrect, but for the sake of this review I will solely focus on that one (obviously, it doesn't bode well that there were issues with every order). When my burger arrived, after being at the restaurant for nearly an hour, it had not been cooked in the way that I preferred (side note: I don't mind a medium burger and I love a steak tartare, but I had specified the burger to be smashed). The burger was not only rare, the center was cold to the touch. After slicing and seeing this, I did not take a bite of the burger (this is an important fact!). We are already very late, I am now beyond hungry and so to be proactive, I eat the fries and we ask for the check to not further delay our lunch. When Julie asks how the food was a person in my party explains the issue with my food and asks if it can be removed from my bill. Julie states that the owner (apparently she was the one in the kitchen) wouldn't remove it because I had eaten a portion of it. I NEVER took a bite of the burger. She then proceeds to give me a 10% discount and I simply paid AND still leave a tip of over 20% (I wanted to make sure ownership in no way would respond to this review by alleging I was attempting to obtain a free meal). The part that truly was offensive (besides the food) was when Julie took the burger to the back, the state of the burger was confirmed, she returned, picked up my check, noticed I had left a tip and proceeded to say "sorry, we tried our best". Respectfully, you did not. You provided less than hospitable service (the slowness of the service I can be okay with), a product that wasn't cooked properly not only to my request but overall, and refused to correct the issue by not charging for an item that wasn't consumed. Bad days happen to everyone, but a bad food day, with questionable attitude and poor customer service is simply not a winning combination for a restaurant. By the way, in no way at any point did I exhibit any level of rudeness or discord. Actually, the individuals in my party advocated more for the error to be corrected than myself because between Julie's demeanor and the statements she made that the chef/owner wouldn't care, I frankly knew it wasn't a winning cause. I paid $27 for a ginger and mint lemonade (delish) and an order of fries...and learned a lesson that being nice doesn't get you too far in some...
Read moreUpdate March 2025. I finally got a chance to come back. The owner asked me to come and try again and I appreciate her, Giselle, for reaching out with that invitation.
This time me and my friend loved the food. The All you need is Love Bowl and I had the panak paneer omelette. They were both amazing. Everyone was very nice and we enjoyed it. It’s a small staff so if it’s busy plan to relax and enjoy your company while waiting to eat. No big deal but likely the way it is when everything is made with love from scratch.
I wanted to have a great. experience and I will try one more time, if I hear back from the management about this.
They were busy so I’ll give them that, I ordered a simple breakfast of avocado toast, and I made a request for the eggs to be scrambled and they told me that the chef was too busy to scramble eggs, but they would do it over hard so that the yolk would not be runny at all. I asked if the toast part of the avocado toast was actually toasted or just bread and they said yes that it was toasted as that is the only way that I like this dish. After waiting about 20 minutes or more I requested for them to make it to go because I was working that day and now needed to get back to work. I did not look at the meal until I got back to work. There was one piece of toast that was not toasted and there was a very runny small egg. For the cost of $18.
I took a couple of bites and there was nothing about this that tasted good. It went in the garbage, literally. I was very disappointed and just spent $18 on something that should’ve been very tasty and done to my liking. I don’t know if this is typical here or not, but this was...
Read moreEdit 3/17/21 My last review for here was 4 years ago when I was a newbie. We have only came here for breakfast, we still need to try a lunch. I used to only get the Eggs Nissa, now I switch it up and sometimes get the Lamb Keema omelet. My husband isn't a big lamb fan so this is a nice treat.
The lamb keema omelet comes with a raita sauce on the side and the omelet has feta, ground lamb, tomatoes, and some ginger and cilantro it is delicious. Instead of toast you get nice and warm delicious naan and the home fries have onions and peppers in them! Everything is delicious!
My husband, well, he still has only ever gotten the Huevos Rancheros. He loves it and says its delicious.
They have raised their prices slightly and it is cash only but they do have an ATM there. Because they are a little pricier than other places we do not come here more than once every month or so but its worth every penny!
Well I could not decide between Eggs Nissa and something else I asked the waitress to surprise me. She gave me the Nissa which I am glad she did it was wonderful and it came with toasted naan and was scrumptious. Also plentiful enough for 2 days. The waitress also brought me out a small sample size to try of the other item I wanted to try. (I think East Indian Breakfast) that was super nice and a decent size sample. It had some jalepeno's in it which my husband loved, but it was a little too spicy for me. Glad I tried both and will definitely get the Nissa again. I can't remember what my husband got but he loved his as well. I think it is a little pricier for breakfast from what I am used to, but...
