Tonight we dined at Korean BBQ on the Lake. While accommodations are modest, the menu offers a variety of dishes all prepared with the chef's interpretation. Ordering is done through kiosks, which worked well. We settled on Korean Chicken Wings, Korean Pancakes, and Beef Bulgogi. Once we paid (credit card only) we took note of our number and found seats. When they call your number, pick-up is at the kitchen entrance where I first saw the food and took the trays back to our table. The food came out not just hot, but "let's just let it sit for a minute" hot. We both dove in, I took a meaty Chicken Wing and quickly set it down because it was that hot still. My better half started with the Beef Bulgogi which consists of thinly shaved ribeye seasoned, a serving of rice, and some fresh blanched vegetables. The wings I couldn't get enough of, sweet Korean BBQ sauce on a very crispy skin all covering perfectly cooked moist chicken. We used the Korean Pancakes as a kinda wrap, loading the beef in them before rolling it up and finishing it all off. Prices for all dishes are among the lowest in the area making this budget friendly restaurant a hidden bargain in the Northwest suburbs. The promenade is just steps away if you need a walk after lunch or dinner. Overall Korean BBQ on the Lake receives 5 stars. It's a spot everyone should try.

It’s spotlessly clean, modern and cute, family owned, open late, and beautiful area/location. It’s a mom and pop place right on the lake. The area is stunning and well kept. Free parking for the Korean food place. It’s like a quick and simple Korean fast food like menu and no need for waitress services so you can dine in or take out without fees. You can order at the kiosk or in person. No free WiFi. Charging stations all over and picnics tables and other tables. The seafood and vege pancakes (pajun) $8.99 was very good and crispy, the vege rolls $10.99 were simple with just avocado and cucumber and carrot plus rice and seaweed. The flavor was very bland but at least it was healthy. They ate a hard working team and they keep it very clean. Even the bathroom was very clean. No odors anywhere. It’s not really a BBQ place even if they have food that are BBQ meat that you don’t grill yourself. But they have just enough dishes to give you a quick easy meal that you don’t have to cook and clean for.

Glad to see more K-food flourish around the suburbs. The parking space for this restaurant is pretty limited, but it's accompanied by a wonderful view of the lake nearby and the modern finishings done in the place make the place look very clean I had the pajeon (Korean Pancake) and Tteokbokki (Topokki). The pajeon was fried a bit longer than expected but it still retained a crispy end and soft center. Tteok was tasty as well, love the fish cake. The sweet and spicy red sauce thankfully isn't mouth-wateringly spicy, but it is hot enough to stop you from adding more. Their fried dumplings have a pretty heterogeneous filling and a crispy edge to them. I think I'll try their Kimbap / Sushi rolls next time, though they have a decent amount of vegetarian options too. As of this review, the order online button does not work, but you can place an order with their phone number. My order took 15-20 minutes to make.

I thought the tteokbokki was overcooked and mushy as well as a small portion. I usually pay less for an appetizer and receive a larger portion elsewhere. I have had this dish at 4 or 5 places and bought both the frozen and instant version of the noodles to prepare myself and i didnt even think it was possible to overcook them as they have always been nice and chewy when I've had them. Gimchi was on the website menu, but wasnt offered on the menus in the restaurant. How can you have any kind of Korean restaurant and not have kimci available? Thats like having an Italian restaurant without garlic or olive oil. Most Korean places I eat not only offer it as a side, but most give it to you automatically as a starter or a condiment. My partner got the Bibimbap and it was served in a really shallow dish, not a bowl (basically it was a plate with a high rim) and was VERY sparse with what looked like maybe a couple ounces of rice if that, and the ingredients were very basic, like just plain vegetables. I know the origin of the dish is just whatever is laying around but if someone is paying good money for bibimbap you can throw some mushrooms and pickled veg on it as well as give a decent portion of rice. The rice is absolutely the cheapest part so to skimp on that really confused me. I got wings that were alright, but even those werent very sizable portion. I left hungry after spending a good amount. I will not return and encourage folks to search elsewhere. Maybe this is what passes for Korean food around there, but do yourself a favor and drive an extra 30 or 45 minutes to go elsewhere. Edit: On a moments reflection I wonder if theyve altered these dishes to appeal more to a western palate. If thats the case maybe they should...

I love bibimbop, a Korean lunch dish. Until my visit here, I've always gotten a (room temp) dish of sticky rice, with an arrangement of three separate portions of veggies and the wonderful famous thin sliced Bulgogi beef. Then the whole dish is topped with a sunny side up runny egg. A real fun plus is the 3-5 small sides that come with every dish, which always includes some of the national treasure "kimchi" , even for one diner. I'm also treated to a cup of (very thin but authentic) miso soup and a cup of hot tea. All included. It all makes for a fun experience for a "foodie".

This place takes a different very American approach: no chopsticks but a fork in their place, no side dishes, no kimchi, and a hard cooked egg mixed in with the other toppings.

In the place of all the "lackings" this place gives a large portion of the classic Korean bulgogi beef, which is almost an afterthought in all the other Korean spots that give much more veggies than meat. They also serve the bibumbop in a warm skillet rather than making you decide whether you want a cold bowl or "hot stone" which always costs more. This is an excellent idea, if not traditional.

So this is a good introduction to Korean food.

There is no table service and even putting in your order is done via credit card at a computer.

Once you get your tray there are plenty of seats; some with a nice view of the lake.

I'm a traditionalist and want my Korean food served like Korea, but with the extra beef, you do get your...
