Read moreI thought the tteokbokki was overcooked and mushy as well as a small portion. I usually pay less for an appetizer and receive a larger portion elsewhere. I have had this dish at 4 or 5 places and bought both the frozen and instant version of the noodles to prepare myself and i didnt even think it was possible to overcook them as they have always been nice and chewy when I've had them. Gimchi was on the website menu, but wasnt offered on the menus in the restaurant. How can you have any kind of Korean restaurant and not have kimci available? Thats like having an Italian restaurant without garlic or olive oil. Most Korean places I eat not only offer it as a side, but most give it to you automatically as a starter or a condiment. My partner got the Bibimbap and it was served in a really shallow dish, not a bowl (basically it was a plate with a high rim) and was VERY sparse with what looked like maybe a couple ounces of rice if that, and the ingredients were very basic, like just plain vegetables. I know the origin of the dish is just whatever is laying around but if someone is paying good money for bibimbap you can throw some mushrooms and pickled veg on it as well as give a decent portion of rice. The rice is absolutely the cheapest part so to skimp on that really confused me. I got wings that were alright, but even those werent very sizable portion. I left hungry after spending a good amount. I will not return and encourage folks to search elsewhere. Maybe this is what passes for Korean food around there, but do yourself a favor and drive an extra 30 or 45 minutes to go elsewhere. Edit: On a moments reflection I wonder if theyve altered these dishes to appeal more to a western palate. If thats the case maybe they should...
Read moreI love bibimbop, a Korean lunch dish. Until my visit here, I've always gotten a (room temp) dish of sticky rice, with an arrangement of three separate portions of veggies and the wonderful famous thin sliced Bulgogi beef. Then the whole dish is topped with a sunny side up runny egg. A real fun plus is the 3-5 small sides that come with every dish, which always includes some of the national treasure "kimchi" , even for one diner. I'm also treated to a cup of (very thin but authentic) miso soup and a cup of hot tea. All included. It all makes for a fun experience for a "foodie".
This place takes a different very American approach: no chopsticks but a fork in their place, no side dishes, no kimchi, and a hard cooked egg mixed in with the other toppings.
In the place of all the "lackings" this place gives a large portion of the classic Korean bulgogi beef, which is almost an afterthought in all the other Korean spots that give much more veggies than meat. They also serve the bibumbop in a warm skillet rather than making you decide whether you want a cold bowl or "hot stone" which always costs more. This is an excellent idea, if not traditional.
So this is a good introduction to Korean food.
There is no table service and even putting in your order is done via credit card at a computer.
Once you get your tray there are plenty of seats; some with a nice view of the lake.
I'm a traditionalist and want my Korean food served like Korea, but with the extra beef, you do get your...
