I like Scoreboard, but there are pros and cons. I learned about this bar through the Purple Plunge, an annual charity event that they do a great job of hosting.
I've stopped in during the Summer. A burger and a beer outside with the park and lake across the street is nice.
Recently we've been going in for the NFL on Sundays. They have generous food and drink specials. Half-priced pizza is great, but it would be better if the pizza was good. It's not. The crust is pretty bad, like they buy the cheapest dough or something pre-made and frozen. But when you're having a couple beers, any pizza for $10 will work.
They also run a raffle for Bears games. You get a ticket if you come in before kickoff and then they give away $50 at the end of every quarter and $100 at the end of the game. What they don't tell you is that it is ALWAYS regulars that win, and they let people win more than once AND the final $100 give away doesn't always happen.
A group of friends and I went in one Sunday and watched one couple at the bar win 3 out of the 4 raffles. The ticket holder has to be there to win so they redraw until someone is there. When it gets the the $100 draw, they only draw three times and then say it's over.
It's also worth noting that the owner fancies himself as an emcee/comedian. The drawing announcements are his time in the spotlight, but the "show" isn't...
Read moreVisited this place on my way out of Illinois after my miserable and harrowing experience in Chicago back in May. Lovely little place. Good hand-tossed pizza and reasonably priced good beer. I wound up conversing with one of the slot machines in back that told me how it loved being there, and it offered me some free coins, but I politely refused. The jukebox played "Don't Fear the Reaper" over and over again, and then started walking all around the bar handing out its own mixtape CDs. I never knew jukeboxes could make mixtapes, but I took one for the car and I can definitely say that jukeboxes make good DJs, unsurprisingly. The bartender was very nice and jovial. I recommend the Sam Adams seasonal, as it's better than most places', and it didn't make me hallucinate about green unicorns like...
Read moreI love this place. It has a hometown feel, with a great atmosphere as well as a great place to just chill and watch a game or two. It's clean, festive and the view of the lake isn't bad either. Try and catch a sunset, it's worth the wait. They have some tasty bites of food and of course, cold beer. I recommend the Bloodies and their Italian pizza. Both are very yummy. The pretzel bites aren't bad either. Great food and drink for a reasonable price, so not a bad place for date night or a night out with the guys. Overall...
