Deceptive Businesses Practices. Not to be trusted!!

I was really craving some good Thai food, so I walked 15 minutes from my hotel to this business for a takeout order. I ordered the gang musmun. When the lady rang me up, the order total seemed high. When she handed me the receipt to sign, it was an even higher price than what she had just stated a moment earlier. I asked her about it, and she told me I had been charged a dollar for the takeout containers. Nowhere on any sign or on the menu does it state there is a charge for takeout containers. I’m pretty sure she was just padding my bill to benefit her business. Outrageous!! After walking so far, and still having to walk back, I just decided to pay the bogus charge since I was tired and hungry.

As for the food, it was disappointing. Watery and too heavily seasoned with fish sauce. It tasted like bland heavily salted water. Very disappointing as I’ve had some amazing curries in my life and know good Thai food. This was not good Thai food. Not even close. I can’t judge an entire restaurant based on one dish, but I can tell you, based on this one dish I would definitely not return. That’s apart from the bogus extra charge to my bill.

As for the restaurant itself. It was dingy, run down and not clean. The menu I was handed to look over was filthy and sticky. I used hand sanitizer after touching it. So gross.

Very disappointing experience. I am in Lansing frequently for work and will never return to Bangkok House. If you are in the area looking for Thai food, there are two other restaurants within walking distance, I’d try one of those first...

Let me start by saying Bangkok House has great food. I was really excited to see that they were opening back up after the fire.

Went for lunch today- it was busy as usual but we got a table for two right away. A server quickly brought over soup and water, but never asked if we would like something other than water to drink.

Over the next 45 minutes, we watched tables around us arrive, get their food, and cash out all while nobody would even take our order.

Apparently two of the three people working there do not have the clearance level needed to take orders as they just pointed to the third lady. I gathered that one lady exclusively delivers water and soup and the other delivers food from the kitchen. Flagging down the third lady repeatedly asking to order prompted responses of "Yes, right now," which I'm assuming in Thai translates to "I've heard you but I am going to ignore you." Neat. Finally we were given the privilege of ordering, and the food took at least another 15 minutes (in itself, no big deal but we'd been there an hour by now).

The food was excellent as always once it arrived.

I've run restaurants before and I understand things get busy and service can get slow. What I can't understand is how three tables can arrive after me and complete the entire meal before anyone will take my order.

If you're going to have terrible service, at least be consistent.

Food:...

Great food but the service was a bit slow and bad for how not busy it was. Our drinks had to be reminded to come out after the food got to our table. I'm very patient but thats a bit wrong if you ask me seems like she was conserving pop because we only got our one drink and had to ask for our other drink we ordered again after the food was out. Then she never came back the whole time to offer a refill or check on us until it felt we were felt she wanted us to leave by offering boxes while in the middle of our meal. We ordered spicy food which would of been nice to wash down with a beverage. Again the food is emaculate but the service was not welcoming not good for the 50 dollars spent . Food prices are very high to feed 2 it cost 50 one adult one kid is a bit step for it not being a fancy place and bad service . I will say I hate being the customer service on the customer end and it not be matched if not better than my...

This place has been here for decades, and once you try it, you will see why. The food is delicious, prepared fresh and served quickly. There is a large menu, but you wont go wrong with a standard Pad Thai, or fried rice. Park in back, there is a large free lot there, and enter through rear door. Note the hours, they are open for lunch but close until 5 pm, when they reopen for dinner most days. They are serious with the heat, so if you ask for it hot, it will be hot.

The short Thai lady was cold, non friendly and non welcoming towards me. When a Caucasian woman entered she turned totally friendly and pleasant. I didn’t like that. The number 22 was OLD- chicken was old , not much flavor and I would never order again. This food was clearly already cooked in a big batch then just heated. I know old dry chicken when I taste it. Noodles were over cooked. Brown sauce spilled all over in the bottom of bag.

The panang and masamun curries were both highly disappointing. As you can see, the curry was watery. I don’t think they had coconut milk in them at all, just water and curry paste. The pad see’ew and pad cashew were both pretty good. If you like Thai curries don’t order them here. Maybe they served them that way because these were take-out and they didn’t care because we were not eating them there in person.
