All I can say after hanging the phone up with a lady named Dunia that claimed to be the manager at this restaurant is “Did this actually really just happen?” I should have listened to my husband and teenage daughter about the place being terrible! They had what they called THE WORST Cuban sandwich ever and were shorted changed $5 even after my husband left a good tip for bad service. Tonight I had just came back from Little Havana in Miami and had an early dinner at Versailles Cuban Restaurant which was excellent. My 10 year old daughter had gotten filled up on the appetizers and took her arroz con pollo to go. Unfortunately I gave it to her brother when I came back home to Boynton because I thought she was too full to eat it and when she realized I did that she was very upset because she woke up hungry after the long car ride. So I decided to go to Bohio because it’s close by. I was surprised that they don’t serve arroz con pollo so I ordered her Picadillo. Basically it’s sautéed beef with vegetables with a side of rice and beans. I make this dish at home all of the time. She ate the beans and rice which were good but the picadillo tasted bland and bitter. She refused to eat the meat and I couldn’t blame her because neither could I. I was going to let it go but it kept bothering me because this is one of the simplest dishes to make and I was concerned that it may have gone bad. I decided to call Bohio and this lady Dunia insisted that she tasted the picadillo and that there was nothing wrong with it. She said she would change it if I came back now. I told her about a dozen times that my daughter was now sleeping and I wasn’t going back right now. That I could return tomorrow. She insisted that she wouldn’t be there and that it had to be now. After going back and forth with this lady because apparently she couldn’t hear me with the loud music in bar, she said she would leave a note and that I could return to exchange the picadillo but not to forget the receipt and food so that she could justify the exchange. I am a foodie. I appreciate food from all over the world and have traveled all over the world and if they can have good Cuban food in restaurants in other states and countries there is NO excuse for a restaurant in south Florida to serve the awful food they did me. They need to read their reviews and LISTEN to their patrons so that they can improve their food, service and unprofessional attitude if they wish to stay in business for the long haul. They are lucky to have a strong bar crowd going because otherwise they wouldn’t be there anymore. I am an excellent cook especially when it comes to Latin food and I can tell when food is just being thrown together to make...

Add to that the adventure of waiting 7 hours for a hotel room (thank Christ we were moved to a better one!), and you can imagine the kind of exhaustion I was dealing with.
Anyway, as my Florida trip was winding down, I found myself savoring a good cup of café con leche and realizing I still had one more chance for some authentic Cuban food. So, despite an office Christmas party looming on the horizon, I decided to sneak in an early breakfast. The plan? Eat early, digest everything, and show up at the party looking respectable (and not stuffed like a cruise ship buffet victim).
The Cuban joint we found was just beyond some train tracks, which felt oddly charming. The restaurant was small and cozy, with a wine rack in the corner and windows so wide open you could see and feel everything happening outside. A little chilly? Sure. But I kind of liked it—it added character. We were probably the first customers of the day, which meant the birds hanging around outside noticed us too. One even hopped over, looking curious but refusing to dine with us. Guess we weren’t bird-friendly enough!
Breakfast was great—big portions, of course. My husband actually begged for a smaller serving but was politely denied. After a cruise and three days in Florida, we weren’t exactly in the mood for giant plates of food, but it seems no restaurant believes in "small portions." Maybe they think the leftovers are part of the experience.
The coffee was excellent—rich and smooth—and the service was just as good. Prices were comfortable too, which is always a bonus. Would I go back? Definitely, if I’m in town and nearby. I’ve also started to enjoy revisiting the same places because, let’s be real, it saves me the effort of writing...
Read moreI was out with a friend looking for an apartment for her to rent when we passed by El Bohio. We were both hungry and I remember someone recommending eating here in the past. I enjoyed it so much that 2 days I came back, this time with my mother. What I like about it is that it's a small and local business cooking and serving fresh authentic Cuban food. The layout is interesting too. It seems that you can order at either the take-out window or dine-in. There seems to be two different sides of the restaurant you can sit at. Left side or right side, either side has the same menu. First time I went we sat inside and the windows were open so we were able to enjoy fresh-air and a beautiful breeze. Second time we ordered to-go. Service was friendly both times. I ordered the same sandwich each time bc it was that good. It's called El Bohio Special. It's not a complicated sandwich but it tastes great and isn't expensive. The place was clean on both visits. I usually go to check the restroom to add to my review because, let's face it, you can tell a lot about a place based on how clean the restroom is. Although the building itself has weathered with time it still has it's own uniqueness, it's own charm. They do have ample parking and ramps for handicapped. As an added bonus there is a post-office across the street so you can eat and send a letter right after lol. I will be returning though next time I will try a different menu item and I promise to check the restroom to make...
