Listen! This bakery exceeded my expectations. Let me first start by saying that the place is busy for a reason. The cake and cupcakes are so fresh and tasty and the flavor choices are very unique. I digress. I went in to purchase a custom cake for my daughter’s birthday. The associate was very patient with my mind spinning and my rambling on about how excited I was and that the cake had to be perfect. She sketched all of my ideas to scale which was itself very impressive. She let me know the options based on number of guests and even gave me a drawing for how to actually cut the cake to get the correct pieces. When I went to pick up the cake BABY! Words here cannot describe how beautiful the cake was. I started screaming in the store. There was a couple there to buy a cake and I told them to come over to look at my daughter’s cake. I was pressed to show everyone. I was so so happy. It was absolutely gorgeous! Then at the party I cut the cake like the associate suggested. HONEY! When I tell you that as soon as people started to taste the cake more and more plate kept coming for seconds. The grownups (including me) started eating the cake right out of the box! There was buttercream icing on everyone’s faces. The cake was so moist and the buttercream icing was so soft. Let me tell you that the entire cake including the handmade sea creatures and flowers were edible. They did not taste like dye or leave an aftertaste. They were soft and sort of dissolved in your mouth. Listen, I am a cake lover and this cake was hands down the best that I have had in the last 6 years. Like I said, this place is busy for a reason. They are now my GO TO for all custom cakes. They made my daughter’s 5th birthday special and fun because they put time and care into crafting this beautiful and tasty fun-fetti flavored cake. You should read this review. We have been using Kake Korner for years, from Pre-K until our child’s recent UMD (Go Kermit! Go Terps!) graduation. We have always leaned towards the cupcake cakes, as they have always worked for the kids (big kids and the ones at heart, too). We have been responsible for the design of the cake(s). Kake Korner has always nailed the customization and personalized view of them. Our choices have been popular childhood characters, sports, goth, COVID, bats, gamer related, etc. Kake Korner never backed down or denied an artistic request, large or small. Most recently, we were going to order 3 cupcake cakes each with 20 cupcakes. The cake expert suggested that we order 2 cupcake cakes, each with 30 choc/vanilla cupcakes. This idea was less expensive and easier to manage at the venue. Plus, the option to pay half now and half later was a bonus. There has always been an audible reaction from the guests, when we open the pink boxes. This time was no different, as we added a parents cake (with pics) to commemorate the event. The smell is absolutely unbelievable, no words. We ended up donating the remaining cupcakes to a MOCO Fire Department. They were elated and commented on the scent of the dessert. Our child and friends especially love the icing, there were no cupcakes remaining after the high school (COVID) graduation. Thank you, Kake Korner! One star and that's for design and ordering. Other than that my experience was overall unpleasant.

Liz helped me create my cake design and was super helpful and nice. The look of the cake turned out great for the most part minus a couple imperfections.

Besides that, the quality, taste and structure of the cake were terrible. I went with a faux top tier however, I was given no warning that it was going to be hard solid piece. In fact I was told I'd be able to stick figures on the top, not the case. I was not even able to stick the candle on top. Extremely disappointing. Then the flavor I chose was strawberry. What I got was sweet pink cake with pink specs in it. My guests barely ate it and sadly 80% went to the trash.

But the worst part of it all was the service I received when I went to pick up my cake. Not only are they not opened on Sundays so I had to pick up a day early but I was given the wrong time! I was told pick up at 4:30 (my order sheet confirmed it) and I get a text at 4:20pm from Diane the owner saying they're locking the doors in 10 mins and what should they do with my cake. I almost had a heart attack. I drove over 30 mins to this place and if I had not planned on being early, I would have found my cake out on their front step. When I got there they were extremely dismissive of their error and treated me like I was a burden and rushed me out the door.
