Kobe Express Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Lavonia

Been going here for a long time since they opened this establishment. I actually now live in Wisconsin but often talk to my friend about how much I miss this place. Coming back after 4 years they have made some major improvements! I always find myself coming back.

I appreciate the server letting us know about the lunch specials because I had no idea. She was pleasant overall (I think her name may be Jennifer). I appreciated her refilling our sweet teas and checking up on us. at the end of service she brought boxes without us having to ask. She also offered to go cups for our tea.

Love the menu had graphics showing what the platters look like with descriptions. Their real dinnerware is wrapped in plastic to keep clean and they don't use Styrofoam cups anymore. That's cool!

Got Hibachi Steak and Scallops, Miso soup, and the Rainbow Roll. Wow! Love the fried rice had sautéed onions, peas, and side of carrots. Absolutely loved the steak and scallops. Such a great amount of food received for the price. Miso soup was in a bowl (obviously) also placed in another bowl to prevent getting burned and spilling. Rainbow Roll not only look appetizing.. It was very delicious.

Overall still an amazing place. From venue, service, and food. I'll be back again Kobe's when I come back to...

We walked in and we should’ve walked back out but my toddlers needed food ASAP. It’s a mess in there, seats are torn, everything is old, but we know hartwell doesn’t have anything better these days. We order the kids noodles, crab Rangoon (came out frozen) dumplings, and my husband ordered teriyaki filet mignon and chicken. I ordered Tiger rolls. They got my husband’s food wrong and the waitress blamed the chef and said “we got a new cook and he doesn’t know what he’s doing cuz I put it in right”… ok… no problem… she brings back the correct order maybe 15/20 min later and by then we were done so he asks for boxes. We box the food up, pay and walk out to the car. Strap them in and then he remembers, oh I left my plate. Literally SECONDS and they said “the sushi guy threw it out”.. in SECONDS u threw a to go plate out without waiting to see if anyone was coming back? My husband comes back to the car and said they gave him the run around, so I go in and the manager (a round YT lady) tells me “oops” and was rude. So I try to avoid confrontation and I just said I’ll handle it with my bank, as I did :) This place needs an uphaul, new team members and management. The customer service here is good; however, the quality of the food is not.

I have owned property in the area for almost 12 years, been camping in the area fir about 14 years. The food here used to be pretty good. I have recommended Kobe to others. The chicken was rubbery, as if it had been thawed then refrozen or cooked before, refrigerated, and then recooked or reheated a day or two later. It was bad grade dark meet on top of that. The steak was the best part of the meal, and they were kind of stingy with the grade c beef.

If you are extremely hungry, as I was that day, you can choke it down. So I guess you can say it's edible. Just highly disappointing, considering it actually yes to be a good place for a decent meal.
