Eighth Street Tap Room — Restaurant in Lawrence

I have gone to this bar fairly frequently for two years but will never be spending my money there again. I have had fun and the staff have been great, until I met the bartender named Sam. After having made me wait 5+ minutes for my drink because he was talking to his friends, Sam was immediately and incredibly rude to me. He slammed the drinks down in front of me, took my money, slammed the cash drawer, didn't give me any of my change back, and immediately went back to talking to his friends at the other side of the bar. My friend (who I was buying drinks with at the bar) went over to him and asked for the change back. We left a tip for him and went to walk away from the bar when Sam stopped the whole bar and shouted "If anyone has any more pressing questions, now is the time to ask." My friend said that he was being disrespectful and rude and then he immediately got aggressive and told her he didn't care and it escalated. Sam and his 10 or so friends all started heckling us and telling us to leave and belittling us. I asked for his name and he told me his name was Sam and that he worked 6 nights a week...except I've never seen him there before. Atmosphere is great. Great cross of a towny and dive. Has different levels that has different vibes. However, the bartender Sophia R. Is not very nice. My group asked if a specific friend of ours was working the main bar and she was very dismissive and rude for asking. Then proceeded to be rude to us and other patrons beside us. I understand that service work is grueling and at times unforgiving, but she was especially rude. We like taproom, but would not visit if she is on shift. Otherwise, always a great experience. Used to be a great local spot for drinks with friends. Environment has definitely changed. New employee I don't know kicked out my friend for having an accent and walking with a limp, claiming he was drunk which wasn't true. The staff now also try and close early which is understandable but not ideal for a long night out with friends. Still has a lot of great people and some nice bartenders but my entourage will no longer be guests at this establishment. Good spot for an hour or two if you are drinking...
