Dined in on Labor Day, party size of 7. The larger tables were full of families so this would be a great place for groups. The dining area and bar were open and inviting and there was also outdoor patio seating at the front of the restaurant but we were seated within 5 minutes. Abby (sp.?) our server did well accommodating us and answering our questions.
The pitchers offered for cocktails was a great value for our group and I enjoyed the hibiscus ginger margarita. While this was my first visit here this wasn’t my first time eating Cuban cuisine. I had the empanadas and calamari for appetizers; the empanadas were great but I wish the calamari has more flavor. I ordered the ropa vieja and my dish was so flavorful and there was enough for me to eat for leftovers. I also enjoyed the maduros and tostones! The papa rellena we initially received was slightly burnt so we sent the original back and the replacement was perfect (the filling tasted similar to that of the beef empanada). My boyfriend ordered the T-Bone and it was cooked perfectly (the market price was $45 and he didn’t ask our server beforehand) and his yellow rice and potatoes were delicious at time of dining and the next day. There was a lot of table sharing and everyone enjoyed their food (I’d also recommend the oxtails)!
My biggest complaint was lack of pricing things before hand (including the steak). Over the course of our meal we asked for additional sauces (garlic, chimichurri, etc.) and didn’t know they cost extra until we received the bill. I think my biggest shock was the charge for paying with a credit card. I don’t think I’ve been to an establishment that offers a discount for paying with cash and wish I’d know that information beforehand. Overall the food was delicious and if in town I would dine here again now that I’ve had a...
Read moreThis was my 1st time here; beautiful Sunday afternoon. I have a Carribean background and am very used to eating food from Cubans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans....
With that being said I have given my visit a 3, not because the food was bad but because of the following:
My waitress (bartender actually), took my order and failed to provide options that were available with my particular dish, i.e. yellow rice vs white rice, and, when I asked about that she said it was too late to switch to yellow rice even though the portion of white rice given to me was like a portion of 1 cup of ice cream. There's no way they just cooked me a teaspoon of rice, and had no other rice pre-made, let's be realistic here. But the white rice did taste good, for Latino white rice. A second bartender took over, and his service and follow up was much better than the 1st bartender; guess she was off or on break.
Also, I decided to have a side of fried ripe plantains (Maduros), and they were too thick and overcooked. Definitely a disappointment.
The cafe con leche was decent, though I've had better; I'm not sure what brand they use but it was weak.
The main dish was Mango Salmon. It was pretty good and I would recommend it. It was fresh tasting, and the mango/tomato garnish was good. The asparagus was overcooked.
Would I eat here again..... possibly. Maybe the waitress was in a bad mood, having a bad day, idk. However I may visit again to make my final assessment. This first visit however was disappointing, and my guest had the exact same meal and...
Read more11th visit: I have been back several times and I am still very pleased with my original assessment. Tonight I had the Vaca Frita. It was phenomenal! Flavor was intense and robust. The texture of the meat was incredible! I couldn't stop even after I was full. I had the croquettes again, and they left with me no disappointment. I was able to try chicken and cheese Empanadas. Not my favorites but still were full of flavor. I again had my favorite drink the Cuba Libre and it was great as well. Out of all the times I've been here I've only had 1 mediocre experience. I am happy to spend my time at D'Floridian!
1st vist: My wife and I happened to walk by and decided to give them a try. The atmosphere was vibrant and alive, it was clean and had a modern feel. The music was fun and not too loud. The bar was large but didn't have an open seat while we were there. We ordered drinks and tapas and were very pleased. The service was prompt, friendly and quality. Our food came out very quickly as well as our drinks. The pricing was a touch high on a few things but very fair overall. We ordered Croquettes, Empanadas, Tostones Rellena. The food was fresh and delicious! I ordered a Cuba Libre and my wife ordered a Mojito. They were great as well! Overall we loved this spot and can't wait to go back and try dinner. We will definitely be going often, especially if the food and service remain at the quality we received on this visit. ...
