Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar — Restaurant in Layton

My fiancé and I ate here for Valentine’s Day and had a delicious dinner. Our server Bryce had some great recommendations.

We started off with the crabmeat fries. I love good loaded fries…and these were absolutely fantastic! The fries were cooked to perfection and the flavor was great! We’d definitely order these again.

We did the Valentine’s Day special which was dinner for two for $69 (very clever). It came with an appetizer, main course, and a dessert. We chose the crabmeat fries (delicious), crab, shrimp, extra shrimp (which was an additional $4), and a lemon blueberry dessert. We chose to get the hook & reel original sauce in a spicy heat level. I can do a little bit of heat, so spicy was great for me. I probably could have gone a tad hotter. I didn’t try the next heat level, but I think my fiancé would have liked that more. He loves spicy food.

The main course was delicious! We couldn’t get enough of that sauce! The potatoes were cooked perfectly and could be easily cut with a fork.

We ordered a lemon blueberry dessert, but the server brought us cheesecake. I don’t usually like cheesecake, but we really needed to be heading home, so we didn’t say anything to our server. I ended up loving the cheesecake! It was fantastic when drizzled with both the chocolate and strawberry sauce! Cheesecake is usually too dense for me, but this one was very light.

All in all we had a great dinner. It could have been a little better if we were provided with gloves (I hate getting my hands messy). I don’t know if they forgot to provide them or if we needed to ask. It wasn’t a deal breaker though so we just dug in. It was kind of fun :)

We’d definitely come back for more...

Service is great and food is exceptional! This was our first time eating here and we will be back. We ordered shrimp and sausage etouffee, Clam Chowder, and a Crab Cake Basket with crab meat fries (eat the crab meat fries with a fork). Seriously, really flavorful food and the seafood was cooked perfectly! We chose to sit and eat at the bar and the bar tender, Tyler, was amazing! Will ask for him again. The music is good as well and not too loud.

April 29, 2021 Update we came in this evening with the kiddos and ordered the same things as last time plus a appetizer that was super yummy! Wish I would have taken a photo of it. Loved our service from Tyler he does a really good job and we have enjoyed his service both times we have had him. He is on top of everything. We feel spoiled as we never need to ask for any refills on drinks. My family enjoyed the atmosphere and food again. Definitely was nice going during the middle of the week when it’s not as busy. We will be back! Thank you so much for a nice experience getting out together as a family.

If you’re someone who enjoys seafood, I definitely recommend Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar. I recently visited and had a great experience. The seafood boils are definitely the highlight. I had the shrimp boil, and it was packed with flavor—perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. The seafood was fresh, and the portion size was more than generous. If you love crab, their Dungeness crab is also an excellent choice and is definitely worth trying!

The service was another big plus. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and patient, especially when explaining the menu. Since it was my first time, I appreciated the helpful tips on how to enjoy the meal (the seafood boils come with a fun, hands-on eating experience).

The restaurant itself has a casual and relaxed vibe, which I loved. It’s perfect for a laid-back meal, whether you’re with family or just hanging out with friends. While it’s part of a chain, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service—it felt like a much more personal experience than I was expecting from a chain restaurant.
