First of all, good Indian food in the Ogden area has been hard to find, just like good Korean food or Asian food in general. Driving back to Ogden, I noticed a red elephant sign by the side of the freeway and looked what up it was and it turned out to be an Indian restaurant. Since it is close ish Ogden area, me and my wife decided to try here this past Monday. Restaurant was busy, but not overly busy. We were greeted immediately and sat down just as quickly. Our hostess was extremely polite and referred to us as ma'am and sir and water came within a minute of being sat down. After having looked at the menu we did not have to flag a waiter down to take our order, the staff here is really attentive. We ordered the mango and strawberry lassi, which came within 5 mins of ordering them. The strawberry lassi tasted good and the mango lassi tasted good as well, although both drinks I felt like needed a little bit more of a yogurt taste. We placed our order for garlic naan and butter chicken and the food came within 10 mins of ordering them. The butter chicken was yummy and the chicken was moist, and had cashews in it and was definitely a nice addition to the meal. The basmati rice they gave us was enough for three meals and the naan they served us was fresh. The naan they make is a little bit on the thin side but still tasted good. When we were finished the waiter thanked us and asked us if we wanted anything else or just the check. I said the check please and they brought the card terminal to the table to swipe the card and all you had to do was sign the terminal. I do have one pet peeve about the way they ask for the tip on the card terminal the minimum % they had in the preselected options was 20% (from what I recall). If you wanted to tip the standard 15% you would need to have to calculate what that amount is on the spot, and this would make it a little awkward since the waiter is waiting for you to finish the transaction. Pricing was very reasonable for being an Indian restaurant, with the main dishes costing less than $20 per entree, the drinks were less than. $5 and the naan was less than $3 each.
Overall I am very satisfied with this new Indian restaurant near Ogden and would...
Read moreThis was a delightful dinner for the whole family. We took our kids for a special reward on a busy Saturday evening and were seated within about 10 minutes. We ordered appetizers to share and probably five different dishes that were served family style. They may have been a little short handed that evening, but the service was still excellent.
We had several servers at different points through the meal, but one (Ganesh) was our primary point and it was fun to see him coaching/training/encouraging the other workers on how to do a good job. I loved that when we sat down, he gave my 6 and 8 year olds and option between a plastic kid cup with a straw or a big person glass. They both choose to use glasses and I'm sure they felt like big kids.
The food was delicious. Two combo appetizers worked well for our group of 8. The dipping sauces were fun! The main dishes were spot on. I don't remember everything we ordered, but there was a chicken Tikka masala, butter chicken, lamb saag, coconut lamb, and some veggie based dish with fried veggie balls in the sauce. The kids loved everything, though the strong color in the saag was hard for the youngest to enjoy. I should mention that we ordered all dishes with medium spice and that was perfect for our whole family. Ganesh said that mild was basically nothing... Good for babies and toddlers... So we stepped it up a notch. One entree came out a little hotter than medium, but everyone was able to enjoy it with plenty of water available.
On our way out, a gal at the desk showed us how to take and chew some fennel seeds. That was a first for all of us! Quite fun.
All around, a great meal at a great restaurant. It has much more of a ma and pa dining experience than a chain restaurant and it was awesome chatting up Ganesh here and there through the evening. He was patient with us and quite funny. We hope to come back again!
I'm sorry I didn't get pics of the appetizer or close-ups of the entrees. It was a long day at a piano festival and everyone was starving. You can see the ambiance and how they slid two tables together to accommodate our family. Ganesh even placed a wedge under one wobbly table so it was stable the rest of the meal. Ganesh...
