I will start off with the positive. The egg rolls were fresh and delicious. The server was friendly at 1st, but when there was an issue, very cold and totally different attitude. My son and I stopped here today for dinner, his choice. We ordered egg roll and seaweed salad and then our main meals. The server brought out my egg roll & my sons main meal at the same time. I thought that was kinda odd, so he waited to eat until I received my meal. Sherver brought my son his seaweed salad, so he ate that & I ate my egg roll. I ordered what I ordered at every Chinese restaurant, the chicken and mixed vegetables. About 7 minutes later, she brought my chicken & mixed vegetables. What she brought didn't look like anything I'd ever seen before. It had no color to it, and it had a clear glaze over it all. I've always had a brown sauce on my chicken & vegetables. I told her something was wrong with my order, and I didn't see the brown sauce. This has a clear sauce. The waitress told me it was white sauce, umm excuse me, I've never heard of this before. She told me I should've told her I wanted brown sauce. I have never been given any options at any Chinese restaurant in any state or city where I've lived it. Chicken & vegetables have always just cane with brown sauce. I asked her how was I to know I had a choice, you didn't ask me? She said it always comes with white sauce. Not true, I've eaten at this restaurant once before & ordered the same thing. It automatically came with brown sauce. I literally have never heard of white sauce at a Chinese restaurant. All I know is that it looks very unappealing to where I no longer wanted a meal. The boiled chicken & clear glaze that they called white sauce, yuck! Anyway, the server told me they would fix it, that I had already ordered it. I kept telling her no, I'll just take another egg roll. She made it sound like she was going to rake it to the back & put some brown sauce on top of the "white sauce." I again told her no, thank you. She said she couldn't do anything, so she went and got someone to come over. The lady that came over, again, wanted to make me the same dish with "white sauce," but I didn't want the meal at all. It's as if they just wanted to argue with me. I didn't want it, that's not what I ordered, nor do I want them to remake or put brown sauce on it, I lost my appetite for chicken & vegetables at that point. I'm assuming the manager was the one that came over, not one time did her or the waitress apologize. They both were rather rude actually and the manager had a look on her face that wasn't very pleasant. The waitress from that point had little interaction with us. I will say I will not be returning to this restaurant. It's fine to male a mistake, but it's never ok to be rude and argumentative. Like I said, if there are options, it should say on the menu and/or the waitress should ask which sauce. Never again...
Read moreWe tried the El Dorado location today. The atmosphere was almost great. The decoration and interior design was a great improvement. The lighting was dark and decorative, an intentionally classic "Asian" style which hit the spot reminding me of my childhood before buffets nearly destroyed the concept of "Chinese food." If only they played some relaxing... "Chinese traditional music" No, instead they played a pop/ rock mix. At least they didn't have big screens everywhere forcing ESPN or CNN up my won ton.
The food was salty as hell! We used to go to the 646 location in League City until I became sick of the same problem. It took me 3 hours, 2 aspirin and several glasses of water to dilute myself. The Kung Pao Chicken: I know sweet, spicy, sour are typical for western versions of Chinese food. Still WAY TOO SALTY and too sweet. They used lots of honey roasted peanuts, too many in my opinion and I had to pick out literally, 15 plus red peppers. I counted them. Over 15 red peppers mixed into a lunch order of kung pao chicken. I couldn't finish it and didn't take it home. BACK OFF THE SALT!
The Sweet and sour Pork: This was good. What we expected it to be. Meaning no complaints. A huge plus was the sauce served on the side. Also both red and green bell peppers which have become scarce at many restaurants in recent years. Soups: Both Egg Drop and Won Ton soups were very good. Fried Chicken wing appetizer: Delicious. Especially with the red pepper sauce on the table. Egg Roll: What we expected and good. I'm not giving up on this little chain yet because an "old fashioned" sit down "Chinese restaurant" has become an endangered species in the land feed trough buffets. BUT BACK OFF THE SALT!
By the way… the last time I ate there I kept thinking it was too salty. I had a heart attack. Really. I had several actually within a short time. I ended up at Clear Lake Heart Center with what the call a “Widow Maker.” A usually fatal heart attack. I was saved with a stent and now medication and lifestyle changes. These include not eating too much salt. I’m not saying it’s their fault. No but… it tells me a bit of what they think of...
Read moreHorrible place to eat. I'm going to be very clear why I say this. As an ex employee from the Clear Lake location I can truly say this place USED to be the best Chinese food in town. The owner of the 5-6 locations is from China and all the cooks are from his village back home. True authentic Chinese recipes (not like other places that have Mexican cook in the back ). The food was always fresh and they always threw out was was going bad. About 4 months ago I noticed something different in the taste, since I know what goes in the food I asked what had changed, the manager said nothing was different and that maybe it was just me. Then 2 months ago we went back and ordered the spicy chicken dumplings (my favorite). The dumplings were NOT the same since we used to make our own dumplings and these were clearly store bought and frozen, also there was almost no sauce on them....dry as a triscuit. Once again I asked the manager and he said, "oh its a new recipe". Mind you I was already starting to not like this place due to its lack of customer service. We always had to be on point and attending the clients hand and foot....most of these waiters are on their phones and it was starting to become impossible to get anyone's attention. Finally last week we went back. My mom asked for her favorite which is Kung Pow Beef with NO red chilli peppers. They brought out Kung Pow Chicken, not beef. We send the plate back and it comes out in less than 1min (as an ex waiter I knew that was impossible). The beef tasted old and raw, actually it tasted expired.....and of course it had red chilli peppers in it. I'm not saying foreigners can't work here, but the level of English alot of these waiters speak now is pretty bad and most don't even understand what I want went ordering. The food was so nasty that I actually got sick just from the one bite that I took. The place is dirty, smells bad and the food is horrible. They need to do a serious overhaul and bring it back to what it USED to be. I won't be back till...
