WARNING: This place sells GARBAGE disguised as food! Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites and one that I always look forward to, so I decided to look for a new place to enjoy this cuisine. I can honestly say IT WAS NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR TIME! The server offered us free edamame, but it was cold and it felt old, not appetizing at all. Then we ordered the Pork Belly Bao Bao as an appetizer, it was gross, but I was so hungry and I hate being rude, so I just forced myself to finish it. For the entree, I had the grilled salmon and my boyfriend had the teriyaki salmon bento box, which we were both super excited for. UNFORTUNATELY the salmon tasted like it was flash frozen. After the first bite, I could tell that this salmon did not taste fresh at all, it tasted like it had gone bad in the process. I ordered some ginger sauce (which I typically love) after my first bite, to see if maybe I could tolerate the flavor a bit more, but I PUKED IN MY MOUTH! At that point, I just could not even take another bite of that salmon. I moved onto the vegetables that came with it and they were not properly cooked, but they were drenched in some sort of oily garbage sauce... I'm guessing it's the same thing they used to cook their salmon, because again, here comes the vomit! I washed out the taste with my soda (the ONLY good thing this restaurant served) and then decided to try the rice - it was plentiful and maybe this could help fill my stomach. NO! IT WAS DISGUSTING AS WELL!! It tasted like old food that had been sitting around for a long period of time. I honestly felt like I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares or something. I was waiting for Chef Ramsay to show up - that's how disgusting this food was. I looked to my boyfriend who was trying to eat his food as well, but even he was forcing himself and did not like it. I tried his fired shrimp, because I figured they could not possibly go wrong with that, but even this food seemed to follow the trend of the restaurant because it was TERRIBLE! It also tasted like it was not fresh and like they tried to freeze it. If I wanted frozen food I would have just picked something up from the frozen dinners aisle at my local market. At least I would know that I can swallow that. I tried some of my boyfriend's sushi that came in his bento box and that was not as terrible as everything else, but again, the most I could have was three bites because the taste was just so unbearable. Eventually, they brought out my boyfriend's rice just as we decided that it was probably best to go, but I tried it just to see if maybe I had gotten a bad batch. Of course I had not gotten a bad batch, because IT'S ALL AWFUL!! I guess I kept hoping that at least one of the foods that came out of the kitchen would be consumable. The "GOOD NEWS" is that according to the menu, the food that I ordered was supposed to come with a scoop of ice cream, so at least I had something to look forward to at the end of such a HORRIFIC "meal" (if I can even call it that). UNFORTUNATELY, the waiter told me that the menu was wrong, and that I would not be getting any ice cream. -_- How can they advertise something on their menu and then say that they will not provide us with that?!??! I was seriously amazed. I asked the waiter if the food was all fresh, and he told me that he thought it was, but that the fish was not totally fresh because it's fish so it's hard to maintain. Then I guess he realized what he had said and quickly added that they get fish delivered daily - which I obviously did not believe at that point. Okay, let's imagine for a second that what he said is true and that fish is delivered daily - then why would he say that the fish is not maintained fresh because it's so difficult? I just don't understand!! I am not one for writing bad reviews, or for signaling out any restaurants, but the food here was so bad that I just had to write my first review ever so that I can warn others before they are tricked into spending their money here. Worst $65 we've ever spent. We enjoyed our meal at Chick-Fil-A much...
Read moreUpdate: Okay, so we decided to try Masa again, but in-person as opposed to pick up and I regret going again. The booth seats are torn and taped over and the tables are sticky. I let them know I had a salmon allergy (break out in hives and my throat swells) so I opted to swap two of the pieces on my plate (salmon piece and shirmp) for tofu instead. Initially when the plate was sent out the waitress noticed the error that salmon was on it and took the plate back for them to correct it. They said it was freshly made and brought it out to the table. Not even 5 minutes after starting to eat my throat felt like it was swelling and I starred getting hives on my arm. I'd like to believe it truly did get remade but my reaction alone told me it either didn't or the cross contamination there is awful as my husband had smelt roe on his plate but nothing he ordered contained it. The salads were tasty though and it all tasted okay and not super fishy, but I didn't get to finish eating due to the reaction. Luckily our waitress was able to bring the check quick, we paid, and I left to run home to try getting to my medication before my throat completely closed 😅. I think this will be the end of us eating at masa forever.
Original Review: I have eaten at masa often and the quality has gone down significantly. We ordered two ramens, a masa tower, two ginger salads, and the chameleon roll. I asked for the masa tower to be made without the spicy tuna and smelt roe, but said it was okay for the layer mixed in with the crab. I am pregnant and my ob said some smelt roe was fine so i figured it would be okay. However when we got it it still had a whole separate layer of smelt roe and we had to throw it out since I did not feel safe eating that large quantity of it. The ramens were awful, the broth was lacking in flavor significantly, eggs were overcooked and the noodles tasted very off. They also still included the mushrooms we had asked to be removed. The salads was hot/warm when we got it. The only thing that we could even eat out of the whole order was the crab puffs. Very disappointed as this was one of my favorite spots. After I delivered my son a year and a half ago my husband went and picked up masa for my first meal/push present. Like I am telling you we really do love this place, just very sad how much the quality has gone down.
To add the staff is very nice and friendly. The person at the front was very quick/efficient with getting our...
Read morePicked up an order here that was incorrectly made and Masa wanted me to pay, again, for the order to be remade correctly this time. Absolutely terrible customer service. Picked up the food during my lunch break on Monday 4/20, called immediately after I got home and realized 3 of my rolls (same type) were made wrong to let them know 2/5 ingredients were missing from the rolls. They asked if I could come back to fix them, I said I could not because I didnt have enough time before having to go back to work, but would be ordering again soon since I eat there often. I was told, no worries, we'll make a note on the account and to just let them know the next time I'm ordering who I spoke to (Antonio) and they'd remake it for free on my next order. While trying to place my next order, 4 days later, I was then told that they could give me the rolls for 30%, then 40%, then 50% off instead of remaking it for free as I was originally told. The general manager said the sushi chef claimed that he made it correctly when she asked him that day (4 days later), she wasn't there on the day of the mistake to okay what I was told, and now they could only give me a discount instead of remaking the rolls as promised. Absolutely terrible customer service; & a really bad business decision not to remedy the situation for a repeat customer after promising to do so. When people are paying $12-15/roll, it should be made correctly ... I won't...
