My father-in-law recently signed himself and me up for a CHL class at the Arms Room. Even though the thought of an all-day class was like torture, I agreed. We arrived for our Saturday class at 7:45AM and were welcomed by an enthusiastic and geared-up instructor named Brian Mobley. Brian introduced himself and briefed us on the day's events. One thing that was really nice about the structure of the class is that the shooting qualification is done first thing and the whole class has the indoor range themselves. There were about 15 students (including 4 or 5 renewals). It took about an hour and a half for the shooting portion of the class and everyone passed easily. Brian demonstrated some techniques before we went back to the classroom and I think everyone left the range knowing that we were being taught and trained by a true professional. Safety was the utmost priority and Brian watches all shooters like a hawk from the time we arrive in class (weapons cased and/or flagged) to the time our range session ends and weapons are secured in our personal vehicles or in class (flagged). Even though some shooters were not as familiar with their weapons, I was never once nervous around them because I knew Brian had a watchful eye on them at all times. BTW, if you're nervous about the shooting portion, there were two women in class who were first time shooters and they passed the qualification portion. It's not designed to fail you. Back in the classroom Brian covered safe handgun handling, storage, and shooting in much detail and I left with even more respect for guns than I ever had before, and I thought I was being pretty darn safe myself. His systematic approach to carrying a concealed weapon and using the systems is great for those who've yet to figure out the best way to carry concealed.
Probably the best part of the class was the various situations Brian presented and the discussion on how to handle those situations. Brian's extremely realistic and emotional approach to these situations really gets you thinking and drives home the importance of being well-trained and thinking smart should you find yourself in a horrible situation of having to use deadly force.
Brian keeps it light when needed too. While very little material is "dry", he keeps it interesting. I never felt like the class was "dragging on".
Even though the class is a full day, for $100 (a steal), I would recommend this class to all non-CHL holders that are "on the fence" and ALL gun owners. Even if you never intend to have a CHL but you use a weapon for home defense, take this class. You'll be glad you did, and I definitely intend to go back to Arms Room for some additional training - one thing Brian also asked. After all, you're only as good with your weapon as you strive to be, and training is striving to be better!
Brian, if you see this, thank you again for the excellent instruction and training. The class was priceless as far as I'm...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting the Texas Gun Club.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted with warm hello's inviting us in and big smiles making us feel welcomed.
The place was beautifully decorated, fully stocked with just about everything you could need and more.
They had a wide selection of firearms, Knifes, Accessories, Parts, Holsters and an indoor range!
The staff were all very friendly, knowledgeable and was able to answer all the questions we had.
After learning more about services they offer like an on site gunsmith, classes as well as the range. I was excited to test out my new Glock so I thought lets hit the range.
The prices are extremely reasonable for ammo, range time and most of all shooting firearms you only dreamed about shooting. Well, at least for me.
I always wanted to shoot a Uzi and a Vector and as soon as I said that, Aries one of the employees and an all around great guy said “Guess what, we have both!”
I couldn't sign up fast enough! Ha.
Down here on vacation, I just had too!
The paperwork was all digital and was super easy and quick to get thru then it was off to the range.
They had an employee bring in the rented weapons made sure to go over everything right there with you and show you how to handle the firearm and make sure everyone was safe while wile doing so.
He was former military like myself so I was confident in his abilities and the professionalism was on point.
The range was top notch. Well kept and the features of the target system was incredible. It had all the latest and greatest built in, all digital, yard settings, lights, strobe all kinds of stuff. I didn't have time to check it all out but will be coming back to see what all features it has that's for sure.
I would highly recommend stopping by and checking them out.
By the time we left we felt like family rather than just another customer and to me that makes all the difference.
Thanks to all the staff at the Texas Gun Club in League City. We had a great time and we appreciate all that you do.
See ya next...
Read moreThe range is a good one. It's clean, well managed, and well equipped. The target pulleys that take your target out seem to be kept in good working order and although you only get one target as part of your range fee, much can be done with just one target. The fact that there is a wait to use the range on busy weekends speaks to the popularity of this place and how well they are doing.
On the sales side, I'm less impressed. The sales floor is sparsely stocked with clear space that could be used to show merchandise. I went looking for a few kinds of pistol grips that should be easily located for a Smith & Wesson L frame revolver and found very slim pickings. Holster options were similarly lacking. There are many options that could be used to populate the sales floor which don't necessarily all have to be firearms but could be accessories or items related to the skill, sport, and hobby of marksmanship.
Internet sales are another matter. I'm engaged in an ongoing sale with The Arms Room where it has taken over two weeks to procure a Taurus snub-nosed revolver. Apparently it's much harder than I ever knew to get one of these most basic and affordable of firearms. If it takes much longer I might start telling them to forget about it and just give me my money back, but we'll see. Communication is the crime here, as every time I've learned anything new about my order it's because I called and asked them. Polite, helpful staff, but they are not good at reaching out and calling me.
Update:
It's 4/6/2015 and the order I placed on 3/7/2015 finally arrived. I did receive some emails about the order from Arms Room staff who were actually helpful and seemed interested in helping make things better, but it all still happened. I'm not mad or anything, but it's there.
Mistakes happen and they say it's a mistake, but this is so far the only purchase I've ever made from the Arms Room. I may try them again someday, but not with anything that I'm not prepared to wait...
