Where to begin....just came back from eating here. First time. I consider myself a very good cook, and a cuisine afficionado. One of my favorite foods is Mexican food. OK, now, the positives: The server, Christopher, was excellent. The cleanliness was also excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. This is about all I can say positive for this place.....Now for the food... We split the shrimp enchilada's which was a Thursday special. We also ordered a shredded chicken tostada a-la-carte. We had the rice and refried black beans and also a cup of Charro beans. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I will clean my plate, as well as food offered to me. Could not do it with this meal... The enchilada's were too rich, so we didn't even eat both enchiladas. The shrimp in them was cooked very nicely though. The charro beans actually tasted like they belonged at the Red River BBQ. I would not have known any difference. The refried black beans as well as the Charro had WAY too much cumin in them. That is ALL that you could taste, and the refried beans needed salt as well....The rice...I can't quite put my finger on it, but something wasn't right, so I will just say that the rice was the best thing about this meal. The tostada, maybe it was the shredded chicken, but I did not care for this either. For 2 people to leave half of their food, not even take it to go, and ESPECIALLY me, you KNOW something is wrong.... Finally, you can tell a lot about a Mexican restaurant from the salsa and chips that they serve. If you are to put out a warm salsa, it better be special. It was not, and the tangy green salsa had a bitter after taste. You might want to try going with a fresh pico de gallo type salsa, served cold. If you would like, there is a green salsa from Austin that is to die for that you might want to emulate. Let me know and I can get you a sample. This was by far the worst Mexican food that I have ever eaten, and that sucks because you are so close to me. The price: When you are asking $18, ON SPECIAL for 2 enchilada's, they BETTER be good. You missed your mark on everything edible here. That's a shame. I was told to do yelp by your workers as the owner's would see this, not just the managers. I am trying to be constructive here, not just denigrate. Maybe I can come back in a few years and be surprised by the food. That would make me happy.
Thanks, for...
Read moreRed River Cantina has been one of my favorite restaurants for a while now. It has lots of available seating, and the interior is decoratednicely, with lights strewn along the ceiling, antlers on the wall, and plants in elaborately detailed pots. The service here is great, and our waiter tonight was very friendly and helpful. After ordering our food, we didn’t have to wait long, and the food came out much quicker than usual. The food here is delicious and filling. I ordered the Brisket Enchiladas, two enchiladas filled with warm brisket and topped with sour cream, a subtle barbecue sauce, and chopped-up avocado. The sauce combination is surprisingly sweet, and it mixes perfectly with the brisket. My little brother ordered the kids cheese quesadillas, which he said tasted good. However, he was not pleased with the charred dots on his tortillas, a feature generally enjoyed by most people but a possible disappointment for younger children. The chicken fajita quesadillas are one of my favorite dishes, as they are very cheesy with chunks of chicken inside the warm tortillas. I was sad to learn that they replaced their combos with a system of choosing different dishes to form your own combinado. There used to be a dish that only cost $18 called the Monterrey, which consisted of two enchiladas plus three cheese quesadillas (and rice and beans, of course). Sadly, they removed this menu item, but there are still many delectable meals that you can eat. One great feature of the restaurant is that the salsa is always warm, contrary to the usual cold salsa. They also bring out a tasty green sauce upon request, in which you can dip the warm, crunchy chips. Overall, this is a restaurant that you must try, and don’t forget to grab a mint on...
Read moreCon- Tonight we had dinner and honestly I was very disappointed. We’re normally not in this area. Normally our dinners with Red River are really good. My son and myself had the Mahi Mahi Marisco $32.95 a piece. Was over cooked and tough extremely salty then normal. The shrimp and scallops were cooked right. The rice tonight was hard. My spouse had the Burrito Classico $16.95 I wished I had taken a picture you could clearly tell the meat was more than over cooked and dry. A pictures worth a thousand words right? Presentation before leaving the kitchen should have been caught and the back kitchen manager should have said hey guys this can’t go to the table like this. I can only assume not many were dining after 7:42pm on Sunday night. An hour and half prior to closing it feels as if we had the left outs from a possible planed under busy Sunday. Outside my son’s plate nearly finished ( we had not eaten all day ) the waiter asked if we wanted to take the leftovers of other 2 plates he stated yall barely ate your dinners. We of course didn’t say anything as it was 45 mins till closing. We were not going to complain as people were overly cleaning in areas as if ( my feeling) to hurry those sections to carry conversations and chit chats else where because we have things to and want to leave. Tea was not cold with a little ice in glasses, chips were it appears as the end of the days very broken pieces that were not big enough to scoop your queso. Not worth the $130 spent. Pro - Waiter was overly excited in greeting, taking order. Queso was very good. Restaurant very clean. As a business owner myself I understand let’s hurry so we can leave early. I know cooking at home is better, unfortunately we live a...
