So I wanted to try a new pizza in the area, so I decided to give the Southern Pizza a try. I was kind of looking for a traditional easy-going go-to pizza joint... So one Wednesday night I ordered it just a cheese and pepperoni, medium sized. You know, simple, the O'G of pizza. Picked up my order 20 minutes later brought it out to the car and I didn't even want to wait to get home to eat at. The smell was fantastic. I didn't notice though that there was no crust this is just a flat pizza... No I don't know about you but I like my pizza to have a little handle to hold on to. So I picked up a slice and I took a look and everything seemed legit. I took a bite however and there was so much semolina on the bottom of the crust it was like licking a cat's tongue. Just that rough 60 grit sandpaper. The dough itself was actually very bland and super crunchy It was more like a cracker than it was pizza dough. The sauce was very acidic, And there was a real heavy taste of oregano or basil or something on there that just lingered on the palate. The pepperoni was nice, had a nice heat to it.
All in all unfortunately I probably won't be trying this establishment again. This style of pizza just...
Read moreAbsolutely love this place for its food. I grew up in Fresno and loved Me-N-Eds and this fantastic place is the closest I can get to that pizza I grew up loving.
The only negative thing about this place is the curse of family owned resturaunts being unreliable on their hours.
I live 25min away and am commuting an hour every time I want to come here. I check their website and Google for hours to make sure I'm not coming when they're closed. However, it isn't always reliably up to date.
Today is Saturday September 4th and they're closed for Labor day weekend, but their website says they are open and Googles hours aren't updated for the holiday.
I drove there today just to be disappointed and wasted an hour of my own and friends time due to this.
Absolutely recommend this food and the owners are very kind. However, I recommend anyone coming here to call ahead and keep calling (sometimes their phones don't ring) until you get a voice-mail confirmation or person to confirm they're open.
4/5 due to loving the food, but driving far distances to not be able to eat it more than once in the...
Read moreI adore this place and I promise to take pictures next time we order - it just gets eaten too quickly.
My husband and I moved to Leander in 2017 from Austin and didn't even know about this place until COVID. I forget if it was a Nextdoor post and/or Community Impact post about what they were doing to stay open with fresh food and assure employees and customers that they were safe. So - we started ordering for contactless pickup. We still order but I pick up inside or order delivery... so, I've never eaten in.
We love their food! I love their calzone and my husband especially likes the all meat pizza plus olives. I prefer black olives and pineapple but I'm an outlier.
I love to see a local restaurant survive and now excel. It's crazy I didn't know about it since the hair salon I frequented was...
