I generally don't write reviews but this place deserves a mention for Austin and suburbs. They serve most authentic south indian food that is close to home made and fresh. Loved their Pizza Dosa and Bandi Special Onion Dosas. Their Butter fried Idly flavor is also awesome and the podi used for making this very unique and authentic. They also make very unique style bajji where the peppers are cut in half and deep fried with batter which tastes very good with onions. Not sure why some of the reviewers rated low and they may be expecting super cheap food for a food truck but the quality and authentic taste of food deserves much higher price. Austin already lacks good Indian food restaurant and this one is a rare gem to find. They do seem to get super busy dinner time and that speaks volumes about their food taste. Most Indian restaurants and food truck don't get this right in Austin area. They are either way too crispy, or too soft like a hand-kerchief with disproportionate amount of potato-masala and stale/leftover chutney sides.
I make damn good idli and dosa myself at home, as I give the right space and time for those wonderful lovable bacteria to nurture the batter. But occasionally we want to help out the local businesses.
Dosa bandi, in my recent dosa excursions, comes closest to home-made dosa, with a variety of dosas and some nostalgia inducing spicy chutneys. I hope they continue to maintain this quality.
The owner mentioned that he will open a separate non-veg food truck - I like that they will try to keep veg/non-veg separate.
Will I come...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious, fresh, authentic food with some outdoor seating. Owner is nice and friendly. It does get a lil hot after 10am. Between 9-10am there's a nice breeze. We got there at 9am on a Sunday, the truck hasn't opened yet, so we waited 5-10mins and the owner started to set things up. Another family was also keen to buy already. Only breakfast combo (dosa idlys poori pongal all in)was available. We got the combo with 2 mango lassis, the total was $26 after tax and automatic 10% tip. The food took a while to make since we were the first ones but it was absolutely worth every minute of wait SO fresh and good. When we were leaving around 10:30am it could get a bit busy, I saw a line forming. I'm so glad this truck exists in Austin and wants to open for breakfast time. A gem, please let's protect it...
