Edit: 2024-05-27: Had a great call with one of the managers after some feedback, and was invited back for a Friday or Saturday dinner. I felt like the manager understood not only my position, but understood some of the environmental issues (staffing issues for a holiday weekend) that contributed to our poor service experience. Would like to update my review again when we revisit.
This was by far the worst experience we've had in a sushi restaurant—or any restaurant in general.
Three general themes:
Extremely Poor Service With No Check-In from the Manager Substituting Items Without Consent Timing Was Atrocious It took way too long for everything. We were seated quickly, but getting drinks and our first encounter was 7 minutes in, and we had to ask for a drink menu. We ordered a couple of appetizers, and the kids ordered drinks. We let the waiter know that we were still looking over the menu. The waiter asked if we wanted ginger and wasabi, and we said yes, but that did not come out with the Salmon Sashimi and Avocado we ordered. 20 minutes later, he came back to take the rest of our order. At that time, we also ordered some Amabuki sake. Sashimi came out (but as mentioned before, without ginger or wasabi), but we had no place settings (no plates, no napkins, no chopsticks). When the waiter brought the Gyoza, he finally realized we did not have any place settings. It was at this time that we realized there was only a dribble of soy sauce left in the soy sauce pot. When the sake came out, it was the wrong sake, and we had to flag the waiter down again (it was always very tough to find him). When he went to the bar to figure out what went wrong, he said they were out of Amabuki. If they were out, we should have been notified of that immediately and given a chance to ask about our second choice. We should not have been served something we didn't order. When the sake came out a second time, the waiter brought a third sake glass, which was good because when we went to pour the sake, one of the first sake glasses had something all over it. The waiter tried to take the Gyoza away before we had finished it (there was one left, and we had only had them at the table for less than 10 minutes). The Hibachi order came out, and we waited another 30 minutes for the sushi order. When the sushi came out, we were missing one of the rolls and had to tell the waiter (he did not observe this on his own), but this came out shortly after notifying him that it was missing. It was only when the first part of the sushi order came out, and the waitress (not our original waiter) asked if we needed ginger and wasabi, which we replied "yes," and she came back with it quickly. The sushi was fine, even good, but not worth the price we paid. We finished dinner, and then it was another 20 minutes before the waiter came back and asked if we were looking for the check. All in all, we were there from ~8:15 PM until 10:10 PM, and for the small amount we ordered, we spent way too much time there.
What I was really stunned about is that after the 3rd or 4th issue, you would think the waiter would have told the manager of the issues we were encountering, and we should have received a visit, but never received one, and we are not the type to call them over. There is better sushi in KC, and much...
Read moreI took my daughter and her friend here for a special lunch out on Friday. It was utterly awful. Once seated it was well over 15 minutes before we were even greeted by our server. Not even a moment of eye contact. When she finally arrived we had already made our food choices so we ordered drinks, apps, and entrees all in one go. 35 minutes after our order was put in we got our appetizer. Someone who was not our server dropped it off. Our drinks were clearly empty but nobody asked to fill them. Another 30 minutes go by and my meal is dropped off and only mine. He appeared to be the manager. I ordered sushi but did not receive ginger or wasabi with my plate. The manager also did not refill our empty drinks. He left our table so quickly I didn't even get a chance to ask. At this point we are reaching an hour with empty glasses and one incomplete meal. about 20 minutes after my food was dropped of the girls bento boxes come. One Chicken teriyaki and one shrimp. The chicken one came missing the dumpling and egg roll. The chicken served was dry and bit hard on the edges as if it had sat in the open air for hours or something. My daughters shrimp bento came with 2 shrimp. Two. I was thinking this can't possibly be right. I finally get our servers attention and request forks for the girls, drink refills, wasabi, and the missing items from the bento boxes. The forks never come, the drinks show up 10 minutes later and the missing egg roll and dumpling show up 25 minutes later with my wasabi. She said sorry the egg rolls were still cooking.... a bit later I finally grab the host basically begging for forks. Finally now two hours in we start to eat. My daughters friend starts digging around in her tempura items and Voila!! There are my daughters missing shrimp in her friends entree! I didn't even bother to mention this fact and as soon as we finished we paid as quickly as we could and left. Honestly the experience was embarrassing as this was supposed to be a "special" lunch for my daughter and her friend. Our server spent an obscene amount of time clacking on the computer and I'm not sure why that was. More time was spent on that computer than was spent on running to and from tables. My final comment to our experience was the that bathrooms were horrendous. I felt bad for the tables towards the back because you could smell the womens bathroom before you even got there. It smelled of sewer gas was just generally unclean. There were dirty paper towels all over the floors. Everything seemed to be wet as well. I try not leave reviews of this nature but the entire restaurant was clearly off the rails in...

Let me preface by saying I have eaten here before about 3 years ago and everything was really good. We had no issues!
I’m not one to leave a scathing review, but this is bad enough that I wish I would have known and not wasted my time or money. So I figured I could help someone else out.
We had a reservation at 8:00pm. I made said reservation about 3 days in advance. When we walked in at 8:01, they told us it would be a 10-15 minute wait. What’s the point in even making a reservation then, right? Bad start but I could get over that.
Then we sit down at 8:10. A waiter didn’t come over to the table till 8:30. Twenty minutes before we could even order drinks. Fine. We order drinks along with the rest of our food. It can only go up from here, right? Wrong.
It’s now 9:00pm. We don’t have our drinks (Diet Pepsis, in case you were thinking it was some fancy bar drink and that could account for the wait). Finally, the waiter stops to deliver the table next to us’s food. I ask for our drinks, again. He gives me a thumbs up. Finally brings the drinks. Great. Right? Wrong. They’re Dr. Peppers. We don’t bother correcting it. What’s the point.
As for the food, it was sub par. We got the appetizer and one (out of three) rolls first. They were decent. Nothing super special. And for an hour and a half wait, we had hoped for better.
Then, the waiter came back around and asked us what else we had ordered. He didn’t remember what else we were waiting for. Finally received the rest about 15 minutes later. Unfortunately, they both weren’t very good at all.
I’m disappointed because I had really liked this place at one time. I’ve been a server, I know people have bad days. I’m pretty understanding about that usually, but this was beyond a bad day.
You can have a better meal elsewhere for cheaper and probably get...
