My husband and I love finding new restaurants for breakfast. It is kinda our thing and have found numerous small or speciaty type places while traveling and around our own area. Sadly this is not one of our happy endings. We were excited about the appearance from the outside but the smell upon entering Cherry Street Cafe was an off musty smell that did not stir our appetites. The cooking food soon replaced that first impression so we continued. Since there are no signs directing what we were supposed to do we seated ourselves. Another customer explained we were supposed to get up and go order at the counter. The menu itself was a let down for me. Very small and nothing special. Just typical options. Eggs , omlet, French toast and biscuits & gravy were the main breakfast menu. I ordered the omelet with mushrooms, spinach and cheese and my husband ordered a BLT. I can't complain to much about my omlet. It was an omlet. Nothing fancy, nothing special, probably more dry than what I would have liked. But still an omlet. The home fried potatoes were tasty but few. The bacon was extremely thin strips and over cooked. Not tasting like bacon you normally get in a breakfast cafe. More like the cheap bacon you grab when all the other brands are sky high in price. My husbands BLT was served on a hoagie type bun and not on toast or normal bread. For such a thick bread there was not near enough bacon and the bacon itself was way over cooked. We looked around trying to access if we were missing something because people consistently were coming in. The decor is decent even borderline quaint but missing the mark slightly, the floors were not dirty but I kept having the feeling that if my shoes were off they would have felt sticky. I guess I am trying to say it wasn't dirty but It didn't feel overly clean either and probably could use a redo. I really didn't see anything that made me want to come back. I have always believed that a restaurant should always have their own signature dish. That something special that makes them stand out. But honestly we just didn't find it. If the previous reviews are true and the Cherry Street Cafe makes their own bread and meats, then we were wondering why we didn't smell that wonderful aroma of fresh baked breads. And why wasn't it advertised or suggested. Nothing in this place gave us a nudge in any direction. Nothing bragged home baked breads. Nothing gave us the feeling anything was made from scratch. There was nothing that...
Read moreImagine going to a friend's house for a casual brunch party. No pre made food, they ask what you want from a list of options. They then proceed to make each meal for their guest individually. To perfection. That is this place. Small, put in your order and grab a seat. Chat with your companion(s) play on your phone- occupy some time while your meal is prepared (in the order it was received). The food comes out on a tray in pie tin. I dont care for "home fries" and was disappointed so see that was the option. O. M. G!! They are seasoned and crispy on the outside. I am embarrassed we asked for ketchup. DONT ASK FOR KETCHUP. YOU DO NOT NEED IT! I cleared my plate down to the crumbs. I had the meat omelette. Oh yah, the side sausge patty was not a store bought little circle. This appeared to be hand pressed. Very tasty. My boyfriend had the cinnamon sugar pancakes. I had a small bite that just burst with flavor. Is it fancy? No. Do you have to work a bit... I mean, you put your order in, but they bring it to you and come around. If you need a refill you can wait or get up off your entitled butt and go ask for one. Why you ask? Because you are at your friend's house and they just did all the cooking and cleaning. To all the negative reviewers- dont go to a small town cafe if you do not want personable small town service. This place is cute. The staff are like family. Maybe they are. Give'em a break. They are serving you. Enjoy the food they cooked. It is good. It is not a french gourmet restaurant. It is HOME COOKED FOOD! Forgot to add the bill came to under $30 for the two of us. 100% recommend if you are not a...
Read moreFrench fries were great! Staff was friendly- one cook and one person on delivery /register. Gal at the register was a little clueless though (maybe young/first job deal. She was nice- just worried us.), seemed bewildered at a four person order- had issues with sweet/unsweetened tea mixup, had to ask for one of the drinks several minutes after the other three we're delivered.
I don't think any of us were impressed with the food. I got a cheeseburger that seemed like something cafeteria, or county fair quality. Those fries though- those things were great. My wife got some eggs (over salted), bacon (flimsy) and toast. Mother in law got a BLT (it's a BLT), and father in law got the chicken salad- which he seemed pleased with.
Place is quaint. Clean enough.
A tip though- no one seems to understand that you order at the register, seat yourself, and wait for food to be delivered, then go back to the counter for refills. It really isn't complicated, sure. But. Greeting folks as they come in the door may alleviate that confusion. We had a similar experience to other folks' reviews here. We walked in, and were greeted by vacant stares by the staff before we had to ask how...
