My first visit to Striper Bites occurred on a Tuesday evening around 5:45 pm. As I approached the door to enter I noticed there were tables outdoors with heaters to allow year round patio dining. Upon entering I found there was plenty seating available, however we chose to sit at the bar to see if they offered an type of Happy Hour specials.
Which they did, and we were just in time to take advantage of it. Happy hour is offered Tuesday to Saturday from 4 to 6 pm, and on Sunday from 11:30 am until 9 pm. I enjoyed the Fried Brussel Sprouts for $6 which are served with horsey sauce (horseradish and sour cream), parmesan, bacon and sherry. Also, for $10 I enjoyed even more the Lewes Beach Bruschetta, which has a perfect combination of roasted squash, sun-dried tomatoes, a house cheese blend, house bread, basil pesto, and a balsamic reduction.
For my main entre I opted for the Shrimp and Grits which is gluten free and consists of chorizo, jalapeno grits, roasted tomato, garlic and white wine. This is a rendition of one of my favorite dishes that I would easily rank as one of the top three for my area. If your diet is gluten free, there are many menu selections to accommodate you here!
Though I did not have room for dessert after the appetizers and main dish, there was no way I could resist taking the key lime pie to go as this is one of my favorite desserts! Sure am glad I did, it satisfied my sweet tooth and did not disappoint later that evening.
There are a couple other menu items that will have me return to this restaurant- the Bacon Wrapped Scallops for $29 and the Hot Honey Salmon for $26. See you soon...
Read moreMe and my husband and my son were here on June the 26th and let me tell you I was blown away by the atmosphere, the food was out of this world ,our server( I'm hoping that I remember his name correctly) was Ryan he was a doll baby, he was busting his butt running around that place before we even got inside I was watching this young man hustling Outside& Inside. 👏 KUDOS to this gentleman, because I can honestly say you would want him always to represent your company, what a hard worker, had a smile on his face the whole time .He answered every question we had, the sandwich that I got I want to say it was on a bun i- biricoche roll ,it was amazing with some kind of bacon and I don't know if it was coleslaw I can't quite remember, I was hesitant to get the sandwich ,he told me how amazing it was and he was correct it was out of this world !!Definitely going to make this our go to place. My son got Sushi which was beautiful I took pictures of everything the food looked so pretty we almost didn't want to eat it ! Read moreI grew up in Lewes and always heard of this place, but somehow didn't get around to visiting until I was 30! I always heard this place mentioned with the likes of The Buttery and 1776, which is to say one of the restaurants in Lewes you can't forego. Unfortunately our date night was pretty lackluster.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic, really captures the Lewes spirt. Service was good as well. The food was disappointing unfortunately. My wife and I ordered two of the most expensive dishes on the menu, both with seafood; I don't say this to boast, only to say the expectations for a good performance were justifiably high. The easiest way to describe the flavor is that there was zero seasoning. Imagine any dish you've ever had, with salt and pepper at the least, and then subtract even that. The butter/wine sauce the scallops and shrimps were immersed in was watery and diluted. My crab cake was bland and flat. Sushi was good! The food itself was of good quality, just of sub par taste.
I will more than likely give Striper Bites another chance at some point, because this did not live up to the expectations I always heard about growing up. Plus, you really cannot be too critical of the service industry in times of COVID; they're having to deal with...
