We tried this place while on vacation. The restaurant was loud and the vibe felt like it was trying hard to be a hipster joint which, was reflected in the pricing of the menu. 72.00 for fajitas is laughable, 24.00 for 2 mediocre fish tacos was not justifiable. I will gladly pay a high price point for good food but it has to be memorable and this food fell flat. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't good or memorable. For these prices I want to walk away feeling like I just had a food experience that was worth the extremely high check at the end of the meal. Everything was just.... Okay. My fish tacos came out in a sort of bowl dish and by the time I went to pick it up it was swimming in liquid. It fell apart and was too soggy to finish using my hands. The food all felt very one note. The best part of the meal was the corn on the cob which was good but again not worth returning for. The waiter we had was pleasant and incredibly knowledgeable of the menu.
They do not offer high chairs or booster seats so if you have a little one capable of sitting in a high chair be aware of that. They sat us on a couch style bench which was fine however, they sat a couple next to us and the lady took off her shoes and put her bare feet on the couch. That was..... Unappetizing to say the least and made me think about the cleanliness of where we sat my toddler. All in all it was a mediocre meal for a five star price.
*In response to the owners. I don't know if justifying a ridiculous price for *high quality ingredients is the way to go here. I have been to many restaurants in my lifetime and had fajitas more times than I can count. Many from Mom and Pop Mexican shops who could not afford to be pretentious with their ingredients and the food was some of the best you will find. This just goes to prove, even filet mignon and fresh mahi at an insane price point will not make your food good. I standby my review and would not...
Read moreProbably been about a year since our last visit...which was very good. Today...not so much. The place wasn't busy at all so there's no excuses. Our waiter (Dylan) was friendly but not at all attentive and not great at customer satisfaction. Our first drinks were house margaritas which were terrible. Extremely limey. When we asked about a better alternative all he could come up with was flavored margaritas. When I told him we were only interested in "classic" margaritas, he suggested a "GM floater". We had no idea what he meant but he eventually told us it was a "Grand Marnier floater". He took our drinks back and brought them back with the "GM floater". They were much better. Unfortunately, the basic drinks were $9 each and then they charged us $4 each for the floaters, making them $13 drinks! Dinner wasn't much better. I really hate that you can only get double orders of fajitas. I was in the mood for them but my Wife really wasn't. She decided to go for them anyway but then Dylan told us that they were out of shrimp (it was only 4:30) so fajitas were out. My wife ended up with fish tacos (no flavor) and I had their "house specialty" Chilies en Nogada. My dinner sounded interesting on the menu, poblano peppers stuffed with steak, chorizo, fruits and spices, topped with cheese, nut, and cinnamon. It was ok but the cinnamon was overpowering in the dish. Interestingly, we were talking to the party at the table next to us and they mentioned that they had heard that some recent changes in the place had resulted in a drop in quality in the. They were there to see for themselves. Maybe this explains our less than...
Read moreWe visited Agave for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After our wait in town, we were lucky to be seated by the cozy, pillow-ladened “storefront windows” that bare it’s name. It felt special. The drinks were beautifully styled with citrus peels and mine with a sparkly-cladded glass rim of Tajin-looking redness. They were as beautifully presented as they tasted. My hubby had the Strawberry Mojito and I fashioned the Paloma. Neither drink disappointed as they kept our Mexican Rockets, (bacon-wrapped, chicken- stuffed jalapenos) company. The entrees were gourmet; Mexican-stylized menu items with the heat turned down to satisfy a spicy-averse crowd. My groom decided on the most authentic sounding item: Chiles en Nogada, I chose the Sweet Ancho Ribs. The chiles had a surprising cinnamon flavor that took the place of what would have been a punch of heat. The Ancho ribs did not disappoint tasting so sweet as they were slow-cooked and fell off the bone as my fork merely touched them. In all, the food was tasty and safe. The trendy latin pop music playing in the background made munching on our celebratory meal fun and American festive. If you are starving during popular mealtimes when you arrive at the door, make other plans as mealtime waits can take up to 90 minutes and no reservations are taken. And as you are seated, they will nudge you with a message that this is how long your suggested mealtime is as well. Other than the long wait, If you love restyled, reimagined gourmet Mexican, this is your place. We’ll have to return for dessert another day. Our tummies were...
