Lewes Historical Society is awesome. We got the $10 combo ticket that lets you visit all of their trio of paid-entry museums rather than paying $5 per person for each. This review is specifically for their Main Campus at Shipcarpenter Street. We walked the grounds and did a self-guided tour using the brochure map picked up from an outdoor self-serve box by the campus entrance. We visited at the end of the day so some things had already been closed up, but we loved how well kept the old 1890s schoolhouse and old tavern were. The campus was very peaceful. We wished we were going to be in town for the tavern's history night! We parked a couple blocks away by the Ryves Holt House (also owned & operated by the society, but has free entry) and walked down to this area. Very pretty walk. Great historic...

My husband and I were visiting Lewes for the first time, and since we like learning about local history, we signed up for the evening "Legends Tour." Our guide was Scott, and his stories were wonderful!

We walked around the historic area of Lewes (not a long walk) on a pleasant October evening to visit a number of old buildings, and to go inside a few of them. Scott told us about the people who lived there and the "gossip" about what really happened to some of them. We heard about a number of ghostly happenings too! This kind of local history doesn't always make it into the official history books, but really makes the former townspeople come alive in our minds!

We highly recommend this tour! We hope to return to Lewes and experience more of the Lewes Historical...

My family and I joined Bill Hick's historic walking tour on 8/31/24 and couldn't recommend it highly enough! Bill possesses a deep knowledge of local Lewes history and brought its early residents, merchants, politicians, and shopkeepers to life through detailed (and often funny!) anecdotes crafted from the correspondence, ship manifests, and shop ledgers of the day. The tour lasted about one hour and involved a short (under 0.5 mile), easy walk to several centrally-located sights. We look forward to joining more tours...

Mr. Bill our guide was fantastic! He seamlessly blended historical facts, local lore, and humor. He also made sure to tactfully acknowledge some of the tawdry anecdotes in a way that kept it entertaining and family friendly! Our whole family, to include the 13 and 10 year olds, happily chatted about things we'd learned throughout the remainder of the day. We're so glad we took the time to do this quick walking tour. Hopefully the next time we visit, we'll be here for a First Friday event!

We went here during a big event where they were selling all kinds of interesting old world items as well as giving demonstrations of how things were made a few 100 years ago. The best part is the people dressed up in period pieces that act the part of whatever they're dressed as. I love those. Most of the time this place is empty but you can still walk around and look at the things and read the history plaques.
