State 28 Kitchen & Cocktails — Restaurant in Lewisville

My husband and I popped into this restaurant on a recent late night after getting back from a trip. We were in a hurry because we had to go pick our dog up from the sitter by a certain time but needed to eat first. The bartender was so amazing and went above and beyond. She seemed to notice we were in a hurry and gave us the bill pretty quickly before the food even came out without us even asking for it, which we really appreciated. She gave us extra napkins, asked if we wanted extra sauce for the wings, etc. Most importantly, she didn’t express any sort of annoyance that we kind of showed up at the last minute right before the kitchen was about to close. She simply let us order and was very attentive, ensuring we made a quick exit after we finished eating/paying. The food was pretty good too! I’m picky about wings and ranch but I really enjoyed theirs. I did not care for the pizza, but my husband loved it. I really love the atmosphere and how cozy it is in there. Tonight was our second and last visit to State 28. We sat at the bar, which was fairly buay, but still took forever for anyone to acknowledge us. The bartender apologized though and was very friendly, as was all of the staff.

The problem was the food and drinks. We both thought our beers were warm and tasted off, almost metallic, like the tap lines hadn't been cleaned out in a while. The trio dip appetizer we got was just bad. It took a good 10 minutes for the kitchen (who our bartender kept having to apologize for) to get out a plate of chips and Styrofoam cups of bland guac, waaay off salsa, and queso that tasted like a broccoli cheese dip. It convinced us to not order anything else and just cut our losses.

All around disappointing experience. Service and good for equally crappy. We placed an order online at 4:50pm. Picked it up around 5:20 and was told they forgot they could take online orders and no one had checked it. Order was finally ready at 6:15. Got home and opened up three containers of hot trash. We both had the Cajun pasta with shrimp. Pasta and water, I mean sauce, was flavorless. To be silly before we threw it away and went to Taco Bell, I boiled spiral noodles and butter and did a blind taste with my husband. He couldn’t pick the Cajun pasta apart from the butter noodle. The shrimp was way over done and extremely rubbery and almost crunchy. The best part of the whole meal was the piece of toast. For sure won’t be back and will definitely help all our local friends...
