We just moved from TX and have been dying for quality latin cuisine. This isn't it. I ordered from the park because my family was hungry and this place was 5 mins away. My two small children fell asleep on the way to the restaurant, thankfully. When I walked into the restaurant to pick up my togo order, there wasn't a customer in sight, just 3 employees sitting watching TV. The older guy jumped up, and I told him my name and that I had a Togo order. He mumbled something to me I couldn't understand. Finally, I could tell he was asking what was on my order. I told he a few items, and he begins writing it down. I let him know that I didn't think he understood me. I have an online order and ordered 40 mins ago. He walks away to look at his POS system, and looks freaked out like they didn't see my order. I told him I'd go get my phone from the car to give him the order number. When I come back, he says he has my order and to give them 10 minutes, and it will be right out. My fears confirmed. I sit down to wait. And more customers walk in, 8 or so. I wait 25 minutes before he comes over to assure me it's coming right out. Now I'm irritated than he hasn't the integrity to tell me what happened, he didn't apologize, he didn't ask me if I wanted a drink while I wait, and he certainly didn't offer a discount for their mistake. I finally get our food, and he's like, do you want a to go drink. I told him I'd take a dr pepper he grabs the smallest Togo cup they have and hands me the dr peper and mumbles. Have a nice night. I get to the car, and my kids are thankfully still asleep, but my wife is getting hangry at this point. I joke to her at least the food should be fresh. No. We ate the empanadas first they were clearly already cooked, and they just threw them back in the fryer. The meat is both had ok flavor, but the dough on both was greasy and overcooked and tell tell sign of reheating in a fryer. The chips were ok, but they could very well have been reheated as well. The queso fundido is a joke 11 dollars for white kraft cheese in s Styrofoam cup with a little chorizo at the bottom way over priced for what you get. My wife got the carnitas taco plater. The meat again was ok, but the rice was just plain overcooked minute rice, and the beans were straight out of a can. Just a soupy flavorless mess. There was no quac, no sauce, just cabbage, and the lile 5 tiny tomato's worth of pico. I had fish tacos, and this was by far the best dish we got, but still wildly disappointing. Again, no sauce, just cabbage and tease of pico... I couldn't recommend this place to anyone. The value just isn't there, especially have to wait the better part of an hour and spend 60 buck to have them give us 15 bucks worth of uninspired food that most of it went...
Read moreI want to start this by saying that my experience probably isn’t indicative of the establishment as a whole, but this was comically bad.
I put in an order for the Roast Pork Mofongo and the waiter says, “Oh, let me check to make sure we still have roast pork. We were out of it this time last night.” Then I say, “If they are out, I’ll have the shrimp instead.” This bit will be important later.
About 20 minutes pass and my friends’ order comes out, the sampler for 2 and octopus salad. My order is nowhere in sight. He sees that I don’t have food 5 minutes later and asks me what I ordered. I told him my order and then asked him if he forgot to place my order. He admits that he did forget (which is fine, it’s a simple mistake), but then he says “I didn’t hear you say it before.” ….....bruh. We had a lil convo about this; no need to make excuses.
15 more minutes pass...my friends are full. I still have no entrée. Another waitress asks me what I ordered and says that she will go check on it. 5 more minutes pass, and somebody else asks if I ordered something that never came. At this point, they realize they have made me wait too long and say they won’t charge me for the entrée.
Food FINALLY comes out and...IT’S SOMEONE ELSE’S ORDER! Hahaha, by the time they realized the mistake, I had already taken a bite out of it thinking I’ll take whatever at this point. They whisk the plate away, and our table is holding back laughter at this point.
My order finally makes it. I immediately ask for checks. They forget to take the entrée off, HA! Had to send the check back for correction. We get that card holders back, only to find that my friend’s card is missing...we look around and see it on the floor by the end of the bar, hahaha! A wild ride for sure.
It wasn’t all bad, the drinks were great! I highly recommend the Tito’s Mule or the Dulce De Leche. And my friends’ orders were delicious (they let me nibble).
Again, I know this probably won’t happen to anyone else...but I...
Read moreRecently moved to SC from Boston and have been on the search for authentic PR food since moving. The restaurant is on the smaller side but has a chill vibe which I appreciated. Ordered both the beef and chicken empanadas, shrimp and guacamole tostones, chuleta frita, carne frita and shrimp al ajillo. Beef empanadas were good missing a little flavor but the chicken empanadas were on the drier side and with less flavor then the beef. The shrimp and guac tostones were awesome I would just say that the proportions were a bit off meaning it needed less guac or a bigger toston. The chuleta frita was lacking flavor but the carne frita and shrimp al ajillo were absolutely delicious! I think the biggest disappointment of the night was when we ordered yellow rice with all our dishes expecting arroz con gandules which is a universal staple in PR cooking to be served Mexican yellow rice 🤦🏽♀️. I feel like if they are going to do a split menu with PR dishes and Mexican dishes they should differentiate the rice served. I guess for people never having ventured into PR food the rice wasn’t bad but a let down nonetheless. The service was good and would just recommend the servers work on pronunciation. Only got around to taking one pics of the empanadas as we were too hungry to stop and get pictures of everything. Prices were good based on serving sizes but I’ll keep searching for the PR Caribbean taste I...
