Average seafood. But can not find anything better in Columbia / Lexington area UPDATED 7/10/21 - tried again after a few years. the waitress was good, reduced from 3 to 2 stars.... again was disappointed.. Let me explain. looked at the seafood platter 17.00, (it's first item was "CATFISH"), when did catfish become a seafood? I didn't come for catfish, so I saw the fried shellfish platter... it looks good, scallops, oysters, Jumbo shrimp and pop corn shrimps, etc..Price jumped up to 25.00.. When I got it, 3 scallops, 3 oysters, 3 jumbo shrimp and loads of hush puppies covered by about 100 pop corn shrimp. when I ate it all the bottom of the plate had a layer of grease standing on the plate. My wife had the fried shrimp platter(21.00), it was stuffed shrimp(3), large shrimp(3), alot of hush puppies and 100 popcorn shrimp. but when fished... it was a lot of grease on the bottom of the plate. No dessert items to choose from. they did have cakes & pies in the past... I will not be back for another 2-3-4 years, if they are still around.
The best in the Columbia area I've found is the one in Oak Grove Fish House behind the barnyard flea market. (with ranking of 7 or 8 out of 10)
the other 3 best in the state are.... in Clinton, SC (Just off of I-26 Highway) Blue Ocean Seafood Restaurant Quality and amounts and Price are SUPER!... I liked it so much, I found the owner and talked to him to let him know. O'yes, They have a SUPER set of Cakes and Pies to choose from for dessert (with ranking of 9 or 10 out of 10)
Other is in Charleston, SC Hymans Seafood Restaurant, The cost is a little bit higher but the quality is the tops. {and no CATFISH on the menu :-) } My wife does not like grits(not a southern girl) but at Hymans, she eats the shrimp and fried grits... (with ranking of 9 or 10 out of 10)
Other is in Edisto, SC The Waterfront Restaurant, The cost was a little be higher but when you get large amounts and a great product... I'll pay and be happy. My wife got a great "she crab soup" and I a great seafood platter.
Good luck in finding good seafood... I'm...
Read moreI agree with Chad Truett. Whoever decided to make all these changes needs to be fired. He is not helping himself or the people depending on him. My wife and I go here occasionally, but only because it is next to Walgreens and convenient.
The place was better when it was light and open. Now, it feels like a DIVE! There were so many times that our waitress was not able to do things we asked... things we used to get with no problem, but the new owners apparently do not allow.
10/2019 Update Returned while waiting for a prescription from Walgreens. I can't help it, every time I walk in and look around, I get a feeling. I do not know the owner, but it wouldn't surprise me if he/she inherited a "down-to-earth eatery offering an assortment of surf & turf dishes & offered in a casual setting," but they really wish they had a bar instead. So they paint everything dark, knock out half the lights, turn up the pop "music" and they feel better. That's just the vibe I get. The music was turned up three times while we were there! They should take a serious look around. Look at all the gray-haired people there. Do you think they are impressed by "Li'l Weezy" played at a volume that makes conversation difficult?
The food was better this time, though. Portions were generous. Fish and shrimp were good. Coleslaw and fries were good. I ordered oysters, but they were out. Cocktail sauce could use a bit more horseradish. Hush puppies were... well... maybe they are an acquired taste. They are too dense and tasteless for me. (See picture and read the message)
All in all, it was not bad. They are in a location fortunate for them. I don't think I would go...
Read moreThis was my 2nd experience at this restaurant. Both experiences were take out orders. The 1st encounter was ok and the food was decent. There is not a lot of options for seafood in Lexington so I thought I'd give it another try. My issue with both encounters was customer service. I placed a to go order Friday Dec 30th. When I walked in to pick up, there were 2 young ladies at the take out counter. They both looked directly at me as I walked in and didn't say a word. No acknowledgement I was there, no greeting, nothing. Then finally one of them says "You here for dine in or pick up?" I responded "Well hello, how are you?" She replied "I'm fine". If I'm walking into your establishment to patronize your business, the least you can do is to acknowledge and/or greet a paying customer. I then said I was here to pick up a call in order. The other young lady at the counter helped me. She at least asked how my day was going. While she was checking my order and bagging it, the other young lady stood there twirling and messing with her hair. Personally I don't want to see anyone dealing with my food and messing in their hair without sanitizing their hands. After I paid, no one said thank you, have a nice day or anything as I left! I'm big on customer service as I've previously worked in the field and understand it's pivotal for a successful business. I will not be patronizing this business in the future. Also the food once...
