This is a review of Tokyo Grill at the Shoppes at Flight Deck in Lexington, SC. My wife and I went there several weeks back and we dined in. First of all, the food is pre-prepared and not cooked fresh to order as you might find at Ganbei or Miyabi Jr. Express which is about maybe two miles away, or Sumo Japanese Steak House just across the street.
To be honest, I thought the food was nasty and not worth the money I paid. The steak, vegetables, and rice combo is what I ordered in addition to a salad with ginger dressing. My wife had the teriyaki chicken and rice bowl.
As for my salad it was watery and had a big core part of iceberg lettuce that was not cut up properly. My steak and vegetables were not hot, nor was the teriyaki chicken that my wife received. They were barely warm.
One would expect the prices to be cheaper for what you might call a Japanese fast food place, but they were inline with the prices in the other places that I mentioned where your food is cooked fresh to order.
As for the mayo and ginger sauces, they give you one tiny cup container of each and charge you if you want more tiny cups of them. One sauce is not enough if you happen to be one who likes to dip your meat and also put it over your rice. You get all you want at Sumo's and Miyabi Jr. while you dine-in.
The dining atmosphere is quite bland and not comfortable. Dark tables with hard chairs line the small dining area. The tables felt sticky to me and not cleaned well. The lighting is dim and there isn't really ant decor for a pleasant eat-in dining experience. There is a beverage bar for drinks. The cutlery is cheap, flimsy forks, knives, and spoons and small paper napkins like you would find at Taco Bell, Mc Donalds, or Burger King.
Honestly, I do not see how this place stays in business with the poor quality of food that is served and the prices they charge. We tried them a few years back and was not impressed, but we decided to give them another try. I am sorry that we did.
My advice to anyone considering Tokyo Grill would be to stay away and spend your money at one of the other Japanese restaurants in Lexington. You will be glad...
Read moreThe Flight Deck is a great family restaurant with an arcade, fantastic decorations and an over all down home environment. You CANNOT go here without visiting the desert case, where you will find many fabulous cheesecakes and cake, as well as cookies and pie. The fried egg plant is cut super thin and is very crunchy, and is very well seasoned. The stuffed flounder is always a fav, as well as their burgers, lasagna, and always loved the spanakopita!! If you're looking for a fun evening, lunch, or just dessert, Flight Deck is a...
Read moreIf you are looking for the best family dining choice in our town, the Flight Deck restaurant is your pick. There are about 6 pages of choices in the menu. My favorites are the quesadias, the chicken cordon bleu, and spaghetti. My grandkids call it the "game restaurant" because of the huge arcade with games, and prizes, for all ages. The decor is aviation wall-to-wall, a genuine treasure of America's flying history. The servers are world class. And if you're a cheesecake fan, your going to be there a while...
