I don't know what planet Mr. Ranc is from, but it isn't planet New England. In New England, the ice cream serving size below "small" is "kiddie"--and kiddie is huge, with "small" and the other serving sizes being increasingly humongous. At Ranc's the size below small is called "micro" and it is actually indeed microscopic. His micro should cost more like a buck there's so little ice cream.
Flavors are quirky and bland. Coffee ice cream is just vanilla ice cream with a hint of coffee, not an explosive double espresso with sugar and cream like most other places. And his malt vanilla was really bizarre tasting, nothing like the flavor of malt Ovaltine sprinkled over plain vanilla, which I really like.
On the most recent visit all the ice cream was soft, they were serving cones upside down in cups. And they overcharged us, ringing us up for three smalls when we ordered and received three micros. Unfortunately I didn't notice, it only sunk in long after we had left that the bill should have been $9 not $12.

Flavors are pretty unique I didn’t try some of the crazy ones like orange fennel I would be a diabetic poster boy if I just went hog wild on everything they had in here. This place has two locations not really a chain. With that this place does keep its local charm and feel the staff seem to be all local high school girls. Complaints one napkin dispenser i got two kids I cannot carry around a roll of paper towels help a dad out give us another napkin dispenser help me help you keeping the place clean.
Bottom like if you want an after dinner treat stop...
Read moreRanc's ice cream is the best in all of New England, period. I like ice cream, I search it out where ever I go. I see ice cream places and I pull in. I have tried a lot. Some are bigger, and flashier with better known names, but no one has the quality and taste of Joe Rancatore's ice cream. I love going into his stores and the people he has working for him are awesome. The Staff is always friendly and helpful. Joe does an amazing job of taking care of his staff - they often use their experience at the store to go on to great things in their lives.
Don't forget about the Belmont store - the original...
