We're big fans of Koble in Westerville, of which I read an owner of this restaurant also owns half of that establishment, so we were excited to give this place a try. I'm still glad that we tried someplace new to us, but we likely won't go back. Overall, dining at Kraft House was an underwhelming experience.
My husband and I visited with another couple for dinner on a Saturday night. Other nearby restaurants and bars in Powell seemed pretty busy, but there were plenty of open tables at Kraft House, which is maybe telling. My friend ordered the Pimiento dip as a starter and didn't care for it, although I didn't try it so I can't say if it really wasn't great or just not her thing. I ordered a beer that they had ran out of earlier in the day and our server mentioned what had replaced it on the tap, and I decided to give it a try. It was good, but I was a little disappointed to see that it was an $8 beer when the check came.
I had the veggie burger, which was okay (the theme of the most of the meal). It tasted and looked like it was trying too hard to be more like real meat, which is kind of off-putting to a vegetarian who doesn't really care for the taste or texture of meat. So that really comes down to a personal preference, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone in search of a great veggie burger...there are too many other places in town that offer yummier options on that front. It was during restaurant week, and my husband chose from that menu. He had the poke (he said it was "alright" and the walleye, to which he said he's had better fish cooked at home. He deemed it "okay". My friend opted for the cavatappi, which she didn't care for at all. In the restaurant's defense, she didn't mention that she didn't like it when our server checked up on us, so she didn't give them an opportunity to improve her experience. My husband and I shared the panna cotta, which was so good, and my friend had the pizelle, which she wished she could have had 5 of. Her husband had the steak, which they both agreed was good. Overall, we're glad we gave it a try, but it wasn't really worth the money for the quality of food, in...
Read moreThere was a group of six of us that they did take reservations for. We had Liz H as our waitress. And she was friendly. She did steer several of us wrong on the menu though. I specifically asked her if the mashed potatoes had skins on them, and she guaranteed me they did not. Well they did. They were full of skins and disgusting. Food is so expensive here though, that I got a to go container for them and brought him home to my husband who ate them. She told two people at are table that the dry rub wings were not spicy, and they both said that they were so spicy they could hardly eat them. One person had a hair in her food , which the waitress quickly returned to the kitchen and offered her something different . She was apologetic and handled it very well . Prices are a little high for what you get, food is hit or miss on taste. Three people got the German pretzel burgers, and they all love them! The Buffalo mac and cheese was also a hit. The Fried Chicken was moist and juicy, but flavorless and shockingly it's a chicken leg quarter ( which is the cheapest of all the chicken options) and not breasts. $24 for a leg quarter with two sides. They have good iced tea, and our waitress was right on the refills. The decor is pretty neat, I especially like the upside down canoe on the ceiling with the lights. It is a very small restaurant, so it fills up quickly, however there are a few seats outside as well if there is a parking lot attached, I'm a pickier eater, so the menu did not have options for me to choose from, as I don't think I'll get the fried chicken again, so I don't know that...
Read moreOur family of six dined at Kraft House No. 5 for dinner last night. We made a reservation and only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready. The restaurant is somewhat small and it was packed to the brim. We took this as a good sign.
The service was very good and our server stopped by that table at just the right times. For an appetizer we had the nachos. The chips tasted like they were homemade in the restaurant and the rest of the toppings were quite tasty. It was just enough for the 6 of us without being too much.
My brother and I both had starter salads. I had the house salad which was made with tender lettuce, sliced beets, tomatoes and a vinegarette dressing. It was very good. My brother had the Italian salad made similar to a Caesar salad with added tomatoes. He said it was good.
For entrees I had the bone in pork chop served with a bourbon sauce, cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. It was definitely the best pork chop I've ever had. My brother had the salmon and he said it was good. My niece had the fried chicken which was served with macaroni and cheese. She said the chicken was good and the mac and cheese was very good. My sister in law had the roast chicken and she said it was good.
All in all it was a very nice dinner and I would...
