WOW! Very fresh fish and tasty. I had sushimi, my wife had sushi and my son had the don katsu and baked eel. We also had some of the specialty rolls. It was surprisingly good and some of the freshest fish I have had outside of high end restaurant in LA, New York, Seattle and Denver. The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are big. The best part is that it is a family run business. The sushi chef is the owner and his wife is the hostess, and his sons clear tables and take orders - they are a hard working Asian family. My parents had a restaurant and it takes everyone working together for it to run and you don't see many truly family run restaurants these days.
I was skeptical of the place but friends highly recommended it. I talked to the owner, who is the sushi chef 🍣. He just bought the business so he is the new owner since May. He trained for nearly 20 years in high-end sushi restaurants before going out on his own. He recommended the stuffed avocado 🥑 as an appetizer. Phenomenal avocado creaminess garnished with fresh sprouts, spicy tuna and a homemade sweet soy sauce. You definitely have to try it. All the sauces are made from scratch and the chef prides himself on using quality ingredients - the freshest fish and greens, quality rice and unique creations.
Next time we had bi bimpap and naemyung. It was authentic Korean.
It only seats 42 and it does get busy. Also, since it is family run, being patient helps - this is not fast...
Read moreEDITING FOR NEW MANAGEMENT: The new management is friendly, and they've brought in a vast menu of Japanese and Korean dishes outside of just sushi. I go here for the sushi, but have had one of their massive bento boxes (flavorful but huge) and a couple of their appetizers (great if you're looking to try something new). I wish there were more rolls for people who don't like or can't eat fried foods or tempura (I'm allergic) and for people who don't like spice. There are not many "simple" rolls anymore and I feel limited asking for something without spice or tempura (or asking for a substitution). They are now open for lunch, but no longer do evening half-price sushi happy hour (I miss that a lot). Their management is super friendly, but at times I wish I could be left in peace to eat - they like to come to your table frequently to ask how you're doing. If you enjoyed the old Tokyo Sushi, I would give the new one a try - just know it's a different experience now.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: The first time we went here, it was such a nice surprise to find such quality sushi in a strip mall in Powell. The decor is lovely and tidy, the staff are friendly and courteous and nice to chat with, and the sushi is amazing! I have been here several times and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. I have only had one "OK" meal here, the rest have been wonderful! Their take out service is a great option as well, and the happy hour prices during the weekdays are always a...
Read moreI started going to this restaurant when it first opened and have sadly witnessed it declining since then. Over the past few years the staff have become incredibly rude, the service slow, and there have been instances when I've found hair in my food. My most recent visit became my last when we're were one of two tables and it took 15 minutes for the waitress to make it over to us, another 15 before drinks arrived, and we waited nearly 40 for our food before we got up and left. I've never left a restaurant in my life before and I never expected to leave this one. The tables were dirty and the bathroom floor was sticky. It was once a hidden gem and I'm so sad to see it in the state...
