Ginger Sue's is a place my family and I have dined at for years and always loved. When our family visits from out of town we always make plans to go. Today our experience was very disappointing. My son and I ordered pancakes and turkey sausage (our favorite) that were overcooked and served cold. My sister in law ordered a belgian waffle - it wasn't served with everyone else's meal and didn't turn out, so they served half of it. The other half was served about 10 minutes later, but had stuck to the pan and didn't cook properly. in fairness we weren't charged for the waffle. My husband ordered the special that was a very small portion from previous visits. He left hungry.
The most troubling part of this visit was that there was NO CHANGING TABLE in the one restroom in the restaurant. Seriously? How can you have a children's menu and highchairs in a restaurant with no facilities to change a diaper? Our young daughter had a diaper emergency and we had to change her on the top of the toilet tank. It was a two person job and very upsetting for our daughter. Luckily I had a towel with me to lay down on the toilet tank.
Unfortunately this is not a place we will be going back to unless the restroom facilities are updated appropriately. Very puzzling that a family restaurant in a family community would not make this available to its patrons. Surprised this isn't a health...
Read moreI went with friends today for the first time. There was a small wait line but to be fair there's always a wait line at this establishment. I figured wait lines means this place is great. Once we got to the table the server greeted us and took our order. The order took longer than we all expected and during the entire wait the server didn't indicate when our food would be arriving just stopped by maybe once or twice to ask if we needed more water. At one point we all just stared while other people received their plates.
Upon arrival of our food, presentation was ok. What was concerning was the difference in bacon from both of my friends. One looked cooked and the other one looked like it wasn't fully cooked, greasy and soggy. It looked like two different types of bacon. One plate looked okay and the other plate looked like they were sliced thin with a deli slicer. You can guess which bacon was eaten and which one was not given a chance. We didn't want to be rude so we didn't bring up the differences in bacon.
I will say my food was alright. I ordered the west coast omlette. Avocados were fresh, eggs cooked right. The salsa looks like it was scooped out of a salsa can but still tasted like salsa. I appreciated the fact that this restaurant carried multiple hot sauces and had iced coffee. Overall, I would give...
Read moreThis place is wonderful! Stopped here twice on a road trip. Once for lunch on the way down and for breakfast on the way home. Amazing both times!
Had the pork tenderloin sandwich at first visit. Very good. However, breakfast was perfection. I had the crab benedict, so tasty! The honey wheat english muffin offsets the savory hollandaise and spicy andouille sausage well. My husband got the "don't be crabby" omlette, which he absolutely loved! He says they definitely didn't scrimp on the crab meat, eggs were perfectly fluffy, and the biscuit and breakfast potatoes were delicious. Also got a side of the seasoned bacon to try, not super crispy type bacon, but fully cooked and flavorful.
Staff is super nice and helpful. Husband was about to order a full stack of the blueberry pancakes with berry compote for us to split when the waitress suggested that might be too large and recommended the half stack. The pancakes were also great, fluffy and thick, about 8 inch diameter. The berry compote was super tasty, great with or without syrup. Waitress also offered a pop for the road, brought a 20 oz to go cup.
Food is approachable, diner food with an upscale twist. Definitely putting this one on the list anytime I'm on I-35 near Liberty. To Ginger Sue, if you ever want to expand your local chain to Central Iowa, I...
