Carol & Dave's Roadhouse — Restaurant in Ligonier

My husband, my daughter, and I used to love this restaurant. After 3 bad experiences, we realized that the head cook and staff have obviously changed, because the quality of the our favorite meal was not the same. We are vegetarians, and our favorite menu item was the Portobello Mushroom Wrap. We have probably ordered this meal over 15 times, but the last 3 times that we ordered it, the cook FORGOT TO GRILL THE WRAP, so it was WET, SOGGY, AND MUSHY! The fries were HARD AS A ROCK, almost impossible to bite into them. It felt like they had been reheated so many times that they became hard. The last time I called to order this meal, I explained to the young man (a family member) that the cook forgot to grill the wrap the last 2 times we ordered, and the fries were hard and could he please make a note so that this doesn't happen again. His reply was, "We always grill the wrap." So, even after pointing this out to him again. the wrap was not grilled (not a single grill line) so the wrap was wet, soggy, and mushy. Also, once again, the fries were cold and hard as a rock. Every time we were anywhere near Ligonier, we would eat here, but after one, two, three strikes you are out, we are eating at other restaurants in Ligonier, where the cooking of the food is consistent and where they listen to customers concerns and try to correct their previous mistakes. This gentleman simply disregarded what I was telling him and made zero effort to correct the problems we previously...

I work for a television company that was filming a tv special in Shanksville, PA in June 2021. Being that we're from NYC we have a crew of about 25 people that all have different dietary restrictions whether that be vegetarian, vegan or whatever else. I was the one in charge of setting up lunches and thought there is no way I'm going to get all of these people fed with a restaurant in the area!! After many google searches, I came across Carol and Daves and to say I was thrilled is an understatement. They were about 30mins from where we were but I gave them a call anyway. Dave told me lunch for this many people was no issue at all. I emailed him the orders and they said they'd have it delivered to me by the time I needed it the next day. I called many times with questions and concerns but Thomas was amazing at answering all of them and reassuring me that I was in good hands (working on a busy tv set with hungry crew, I needed the reassuring). Lunch came right on time with no mistakes, fresh, still hot and a surprise tray of delicious cookies that were on the house! The crew had rave reviews about their lunches (we had almost half order the beyond burger!) and I can't thank Thomas and Dave enough for all of their help with pulling this off. Will 100% recommend to every crew we have heading out that way in the future!! Delicious, accommodating and a menu that fits...

The server was visibly tired and stressed. We had stopped by here after a day at Idlewild, unaware of Ligonier days happening in town. I called ahead to see if they could accommodate 10 ppl, to which I was told yes but it would take 30 minutes and they would call when the table was ready. After driving in I became aware of the towns festivities and after sitting down, we were understanding of the servers demeanor. Despite what I'm sure was a very busy and stressful day she was pleasant and explained the kitchen was just too overwhelmed to accommodate any changes to the dishes such as no tomato on salads or lettuce and tomato on burgers, etc. She said we would just have to take it off ourselves. We were understanding and moved on with life. The server explained our food may take a bit, but brought hot freshly baked bread to satisfy us until it came out. Despite the warning,the food did not seem to take long. Everyone enjoyed their food... a burger, some artichoke and spinach dip chicken entrees, and, for me, a delicious 4 cheese Mac & cheese with a side of boneless buff wings.

I would suggest this place to anyone traveling to the area and I would certainly eat there again anytime I was in or around...
