Walk in and ask to sit outside. Hostess says there are no tables and then says we can sit in the back. She takes us there and it’s just not as nice as what we saw as we walked in. So we asked if there was a wait and how long to maybe get a seat outside. The hostess rudely says “I don’t know”. I asked her “Aren’t you the hostess? I mean is it 15 minutes or an hour. I’ve worked in a lot of restaurants and never heard a hostess just say she didn’t know.” She gets all agro and exclaims “I’ve worked here for four years and I can’t know if a table will be ready.” And is just angry as she smashes the high chair around. We sat down really I comfortable and I told my wife that I was just gonna look outside, we can tell if there will be a long wait. We go outside and see two open tables and a couple about to be open. We go to the who was clearing the tables “excuse me are these tables open” she says nicely yep they just opened up. We go up to the other hostess and say we’d like to sit outside. We sit down while she goes outside and in about three minutes are sat. Ten minutes later almost all the tables are open. That’s how not started. Not good. Why we stayed at this point I don’t know.
We sit down and order the escargot because my son has never had it. It was super bland basically snails in butter so I told my son normally they have better flavor but whatever. Then we joke with the waitress that with my 18 year old son there my wife and realized we have a sober driver. I order a manhattan and ask what kind of whiskey is in it she says seagrams so ask what other options I got… she doesn’t know. So I just fire out “umm how bout bulliet?” Cool they got it. I think my wife got preseco. Anyway we are kind of getting back to normal but talking about how weird the hostess getting all agro at us a family of five was. We order our food I got the seafood pasta, wife got the lasagna, and son got the veal, my second youngest the six year old got the toasted ravioli. Comes to the table and looks fine but nothing special. Mainly because they say they have handmade noodles. It’s clearly not. I’ve made my own and have had it out many times. Those were dry box noodles. The sauces were whack, bland, and disappointing. My daughters ravioli also like a frozen ravioli. Hand made noodles have inconsistency. They don’t come out perfectly smooth and they have a rich taste. This was box noodles. Then my son not knowing what veal tastes like says it’s okay it just tastes like roast. I was like “it shouldn’t.” So he gives my wife and I a bite. I don’t think it was veal at all. It did in fact taste like roast beef my wife said it tastes “pounded skirt steak.” It wasn’t veal. So now we are just kind of over it and halfway through the meal and I realize we never had anyone come back and ask if we wanted another drink. We basically finish before anyone comes back. I guess they didn’t want to sell anything? I don’t know we were kind of ready to go.
We get our bill it’s $150. Just kind of a normal price for us no biggie but my wife is like I think I should talk to some one this whole thing kind of sucked. We say to the waitress “can we talk to a manager, it’s really nothing about you were great” (only partially true), but we weren’t trying to throw the server in with the hostess and the bonus food. It’s not her fault. Yeah, she never came to check or get drinks whatever. That wasn’t really the biggest issue. She says “sure I can actually get the owner he’s right over there”. This is where it goes from bad to wild and one of the weirdest experiences we’ve ever had.
Dude takes like ten minutes to come over. He’s jacked up like high on coke but definitely inebriated. We calmly just kind of address the hostess thing and he interrupts will like weird nonsensical gibberish… because he seems high as a kite. He really isn’t listening and we really didn’t know how to move forward my wife was just kind of stunned… it gets weirder but almost out characters. This place was bad. Do...
Read moreIn from Salt Lake City on new years eve with local family. Service was great. They used two servers who worked together for our table of three which I have never encountered before. They introduced themselves as such. Thus made us feel special and cared for. Atmosphere lively, beautiful decor and comfortable seating. Our table for four was situated in the far southeast corner which I considered the best table in the house with no traffic and cozy enclave, EXCEPT a cold air register blowing up our legs. The owner was amongst the crowd with a dynamic and personal connection. Being in a small town he knew families since he himself has owned it for at least ten years and I understand longer in a non ownership capacity. In these categories of service and atmosphere I give an almost perfect rating. (The cold air vent was a distraction)
Food.
I do not know the chef, nor the professional ratings or awards (if any) the chef has acquired. What follows is my opinion as a late middle age male, but with much exposure to European cuisine from a full Greek mom and a full German dad.
I did not like the steak cooking rating "advisory" in the upper right hand portion of the menu in the (obvious) steak menu. The definitions and descriptions of types of cooking were informative and made me smile. However, the caveat of cooking a steak above medium stating to the effect the chef is not responsible for the meat being tough and dry was a childish cop out. I believe a five-year-old can grill a rare or medium steak presenting it moist and tender. Show me a griller who can give me a well done steak juicy, moist and tender and I will call that person a real chef.
I had the Tuscan penne pasta with sausage. I found it good, but nothing special. The color presentation was not appetizing. The picture above/below is after I added the cheese. I have had the same taste in Italian chain restaurants and even chain pizza places. The herbs and spices were blended together in a sauce which was bland. The chef could use a lesson or two in the chemistry of ingredients to make every bite an adventure of taste rather than a consistent blend of mush. The pasta was cooked correctly and the Italian sausage old world wonderful.
The bread nothing special. Olive oil so so. The table should be augmented with balsamic vinegar.
The house salad was wonderful with stem lettuce and Romain. The blue cheese dressing with separate chunks was a burst of flavor not of this world, fantastic!! The artichoke appetizer with seasoned pita was absolutely extraordinary.
My guest had the stuffed pork chop which I tasted and it was a burst of many flavors in my mouth. Here the chef got his blend of seasonings right on the money. Each bite resonated with tiny variations in taste, kudos here. The meat moist and tender.
My other guest had the Osso bucco braised pork with vegetables which I sampled. Good, but nothing outstanding.
The cheesecake cranberry desert was superb. It is not light. But I love a heavy...
Read moreI had another wonderful experience at Tosi’s, and I can confidently say it continues to be one of my favorite places to dine. While there was a small mishap with my food taking a little longer than expected, the overall visit more than made up for it. The staff handled it with grace and professionalism, which speaks volumes about the care and service standard here.
The environment at Tosi’s is absolutely gorgeous—truly one of the most beautiful dining settings in the area. From the ambiance to the thoughtful details in décor, it always creates such a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes every visit feel special.
Although my one favorite servers, Payton, wasn’t working during this visit, I was fortunate enough to be served by Kristin, who was equally outstanding. Kristin provided attentive, friendly, and professional service that made the evening flow seamlessly. It’s clear that Tosi’s has a fantastic team across the board, and it’s always a pleasure interacting with them.
I also can’t say enough about Dan, the owner. He always brings a wonderful energy to the restaurant. Dan’s humor, warmth, and genuine joy for what he does are infectious and help make the dining experience at Tosi’s stand out from anywhere else.
I also want to highlight Jen, the Manager, who is always so kind. She personally took the time to come over and talk with me during my visit, which made me feel genuinely valued as a guest. Her warm personality and leadership clearly shine through in the way the staff operates and in the overall guest experience
Overall, aside from the slight wait, everything about my visit was excellent. Tosi’s continues to deliver on quality food, top-tier service, and an unforgettable atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place that combines elegance with comfort and a truly welcoming...
