I'm usually succinct with reviews, but this needs details.
The booking advertised $117 Cdn and Baymont Inns have been a very reliable choice of our for years. Sadly this location was stuck in the 90s in terms of decor (not a huge factor), safety and quality. Walls are a tired stucco, with varying strokes of gloss and matte. The place is clean and tidy, but the front desk had a DIY-type homemade plexiglass barrier with roughly cut wood framing and lots of wood bits sticking out. Safety concerns?
The check-in was efficient and professional. No complaints there. The desk clerk answered all our questions and was welcoming.
The parking lot seems well-lit and the elevator is a reasonable size. The stairs up to the second floor are well-lit and have rubber no-slip step covers but they are all loose, presenting a slip/fall hazard. As we went on an afternoon walk around the campus of hotels we noticed that about half of the windows on our side of the hotel were as ‘fogged’ up as our window was; one double-glazed window was fractured, allowing condensation inside. This was on many of the windows. Also, we like fresh air in the room and were happy that we could open the windows, but chose to close them since we don’t have screens - looks like none of the other rooms have screens on them either.
In our room, again it was tidy and clean. Ample lighting and places to put our belongings. We appreciated the good-sized fridge (sadly, no freezer for our ice packs) and the microwave. The tap over the sink needs to be turned off at just the right angle, about 1:00 on a clock, or it will drip constantly. And finally, the toilet, even for a very short person, is frighteningly low - I would suggest it is a slip/fall hazard for anyone who is pregnant or experiences difficulty squatting very low - less than 90º at the knee.
Internet is so slow as to be dial-up pace. There is no password needed, they said, and there were 4 different Baymont wifi sites to choose from; I selected what seemed stronger. It took minutes to see that some web pages just would not open. Others took seconds to minutes.
Finally, the cost. $117 Cdn was a very good price. Added to that was “Tax Recovery Charges” of 11.24 - What is that? Added to that was “Service Fees” of $42.41 - that feels like an arbitrary charge just to hike the fees. The desk clerk explained that I would have to contact the hotelvalues.com which sent me the confirmation with the final invoice. SCAM: hotelvalues is documented on BBB - I searched Baymont Inn, and made reservations on that site and somehow it was moved to hotelvalues.com when I received the invoice. I won’t be booking at Baymont unless I...
Read moreBeware, DO NOT STAY HERE The staff is inept, rude, entitled and racist. I was refused service because of the color of my skin. You're not missing out on anything good. The hotel smells like mildew, the "breakfast" was Just old hard boiled eggs and a brown banana with some stale pieces of bread. The inside is falling apart and some lady arrives around 6am and starts yelling at the employees, won't let you sleep.
Booked through Expedia last minute 7/15/25. I showed up in the evening with my elderly grandmother,my niece who is special needs and my aunt. We were exhausted and ready to rest. I attempted to check in, when I arrived the front desk person was arrogant and rude, didn't greet me, didn't ask for my name or if I had a reservation and won't even look me in the face. He demands to see my ID and when I ask for him to speak to me with respect he tells me to get out. I asked to speak to the supervisor (theres a plaque there with the supervisors name, clearly not him)and he "calls the cops" saying he is in charge and he will make sure that we don't stay there that night or any other night. I asked for his name, he refused to give it to me saying "I'm in charge here, get out". I asked to wait for the police, but he told me to get out. I didn't want to put my family through anymore so we left. The next morning I get the hotel receipt charging me a "No show" fee. $108 just about the same amount as the room. I contacted Expedia for a refund but the hotel declined my request. Contacting my credit card company to dispute it
We had stayed here a few weeks ago for 3 days as part of a girl's trip. I was not in charge of booking the hotel so I did not want to make a big deal out of all the issues that went on that time (spiders coming out of the toilet paper roll while my friend was sitting on the toilet, stale bread for bk, broken hot tub, yelling lady). Now I wish I had. This second time that I booked, I had not recognized that it was the same hotel until we arrived to the parking lot (again i did not book the first time). It was so late,we were tired and figured it was only for one night. HUGE MISTAKE,...
Read moretl;dr Don't stay here. Insect-infested room, uncontrollable shower temperatures, bad/risky neighborhood and indifferent management.
Read on, if you wish: My wife was traveling back from visiting family up north, and she wanted a place to stop for the night. I looked at the area hotel pricing and reviews, and it appeared that this would be a decent place to stay overnight. It wasn't.
The room had insect issues, especially gnats. How bad could it be? Bad. Eating? Gnats fly into your mouth. Sleeping? Gnats fly into your mouth. Brushing your teeth? Gnats fly into your mouth. They were everywhere. Google image search identified them as fungus gnats. They appeared to be coming from the sink drain and overflow opening.
The plumbing is apparently outdated or poorly maintained. While showering, the temperature changed every time the water pressure changed. If another room flushed, the temperature changed. If another room turned on the shower, the temperature changed. The temperature changes weren't minor; the water temperature went from warm to scalding in seconds. It went from warm to cold in seconds. The water temperature did whatever it wanted, so my wife went through three burning-hot water episodes during her 15-minute shower.
The neighborhood looks pretty much normal initially, but the protective plexiglas at the front desk said otherwise. I don't know what prompted them to spend the money on that level of security, but I'm guessing they had a good reason for it.
At checkout, my wife reported the issues to the front desk person. The front desk wanted to give a 50% refund, but they had to call a manager for approval. Management's decision was to give a 20% refund. Period. The front desk was extremely apologetic, but that was it.
For $170 per night, I expected to get a decent room with decent amenities. They provided none of that. This is a disgusting place to stay. I'm thankful that the room was only needed for one night. By the way... the "free breakfast" is bread and cereal, and the lobby smells like...
