Let me start off by saying we're from Louisiana. Our experience wasnt great but wasnt horrible either. Just dont go in expecting your usual experience.
It started out with your typical salsa & chip dance. Except here they also bring you water (which is nice) as well as a bowl of chopped onion, mushroom & cilantro. 🤷♀️ your salsa doesnt come in a pitcher type deal& bowls; instead you get 2 bowls to share (plus your onion mixture) they say one is medium and one is spicy. Your spicy salsa is mostly big chunks of tomato, lots of lime, cilantro, onion and a few peppers. Your medium is similar except less lime, no peppers and your regular black table pepper for flavor.
We always order a queso. Thankfully this one had white queso. The queso came in a large bowl for 5$ (which was great because we've been to some where that size of a bowl ran 8$ a pop, easy!) It was alittle more liquidy but was all around good. Great jalapeno flavor.
We order our usual meals. The easy fail safe meals that are hard to screw up (this is in the chance we run across a bad joint. Which happens alot) my husband got the Steak Ranchero & I ordered 2 chicken & rice plates (1 for myself & 1 for the girls to share)
My husbands steal ranchero came cut up in strips instead of a full steak 🤨. Also let me say that the "ranchero" sauce was instead your typical red enchilada sauce. Again 🤨🤔 he said it tasted okay though but was definitely NOT what he wanted.
Our chicken plates werent our usual. We normally get a plain ole chicken breast either on a bed of rice or with rice and beans on the side. We've had both with veggies or topped with your white queso. The queso being our favorite. Here you got chicken breast on a bed of rice with mushrooms and onions and a "special sauce". Expecting the sauce to be similar to a queso dip, that's what we got. We were wrong. Instead we got a very generous plate of rice, chicken slices, a shredded cheese and the special sauce? It was your plain old red enchilada sauce. Again. 🙄 now dont get me wrong, it wasnt bad but just label it as enchilada sauce instead of a "special sauce". tasted like a chicken enchilada (tortillas came with it so you could either essentially build a enchilada or eat it without)
Our waiter seemed more interested in serving drinks to his other tables than us. But hey I get it. Get drunk. Get more loose with the money. Bigger tip.
Experience wasnt horrible, but like I said not what...
Read moreThis is Mexican? This is an insult to real Mexican cuisine! I don't know what changed but last year I ate here twice and although it wasn't great it at least was pretty good. I ate here last week and I have to say this is so far from Mexican food I would urge them to take the word "Mexican" from their sign. I took my daughter and her friend here (my daughter loves authentic Mexican food as well). The waiter brought us chips and three bowls of salsa, pointing at one and said "that's spicy". Are you kidding me? All three tasted the same without a hint of heat. In fact we decided that they were just watered down tomato juice with some chopped tomato added for effect. My burrito, "smothered green" was abysmal. Tasteless and whatever they passed off for green chili was bland slop with no hint of heat. Where's the Jalapeno? The burrito filling was lacking in any Mexican flavor - no cumin, no coriander, no cilantro - no nothing. If you really like Mexican food you'll...
Read moreFamily owned and ran restaurant. We only had the Nachos so this review is based on that experience. I had the carne asada nachos. They tasted great. The chips seemed home made, although underneath the main level of chips there seemed to be a lot of smaller chips like from the bottom of a almost empty bag of corn chips, but still fine and edible. Cheese was spread on very well and had a great taste, the dish came out hot so it seemed quite fresh. The steak on the nachos had a good spicy taste unlike some places where it seems they just cook steak and throw it on the dish. The steak was cut into about 2-3 inch long slices. I would of preferred it cut into smaller portions to get the steak on the nachos chips into my mouth without having to cut the long strips, but overall managed it fine. Overall it was a good experience and would go back again to try something else...
