I had high hopes for my dining experience based on the glowing reviews, but I unfortunately left feeling disappointed. From the moment we entered, we felt overlooked; it took a while for anyone to acknowledge our presence, which set a negative tone for the evening.
Once we were finally seated, it took about ten minutes for our server to greet us. They poured us water but didn't provide menus right away. After another five minutes of waiting, the menus were dropped off without any explanation, even though we had questions.
When we placed our orders, the wait for our food was quite long—about twenty minutes before the server informed us it would be ready soon. However, “soon” turned out to mean another ten minutes, which felt excessive.
When our food did arrive, it was somewhat underwhelming, especially considering the price. We paid $15 for two tacos, and there were no sides like chips and salsa, rice, or beans to accompany them. While the tacos themselves were tasty—the beef taco was tender and full of flavor—the presentation left much to be desired. The tacos were placed directly on the plate, which caused the juices to run out and make the other shell soggy. A simple change in plating could significantly enhance the dining experience; the dishes looked more like something from IKEA than a thoughtfully curated meal.
As soon as we finished eating, the server promptly cleared our plates, almost as if they were eager to rush us out the door. This abruptness was surprising given the earlier delays in service.
Overall, the atmosphere was not conducive to a pleasant dining experience, and the service could use substantial improvement. I’m rating this restaurant a two out of five. While I appreciated the flavor of the beef taco, the chicken taco was bland and reminded me of something easily made in a slow cooker minus the salt. Unfortunately, these factors overshadowed the positive aspects of the meal, making me...
Read moreFirst time trying Oteo and it did not disappoint! The parking lot is very small and we actually had to park across the street and walk over. The restaurant itself is small, quiet, and minimal. However, it’s creates a nice intimate environment which I enjoyed.
We started with the queso and it was absolutely delicious. It was so creamy and the jalapeños were a great addition to have some spice. The corn tortillas tasted homemade and I loved how you spin the cheese and put it into your tortilla. Would definitely get that every single time.
I ordered the tacos. I got one salmon and one beef. The beef is advertised on the menu as a hangar steak and cooked medium rare. I will say, although the tortilla and the jalapeños were good for the taco, the beef itself was disappointing. It was chewy and cooked more like medium well. Didn’t seem like the best quality either. There wasn’t much pink at all in the meat. Some bites were flavorful and seasoned well and other bites had no flavor. I have to say, I was expecting a lot better - especially because our waitress said that was the best one. In my opinion, there also needed to be some type of sauce. The taco, likely due to the meat, was dry. The tortilla was delicious though.
The salmon taco was the saving grace for the steak taco. It was a big piece of salmon and had amazing flavor. It was cooked perfectly. The sauces were creamy and delicious and all of the flavors complimented the fish very well. I would definitely order this again. I was very impressed.
The service was really good too and they made sure to refill our drinks throughout our meal.
I will definitely be back here for the queso and the salmon taco. I would like to try the shrimp taco as well. Pass on the steak taco. There’s better...
Read moreI’ve heard about Oteo of times but never made it in until tonight and boy am I upset. For the 13 years they’ve been open I could have been having some of the best food I’ve ever tasted and have missed out! I love food. I love great quality food and value. I appreciate great service and warmth. Oteo is five stars and more in every category. We were greeted warmly, walked through the menu, and had all of our questions answered. Our drinks were refilled faster than I could ever finish one and the check-ins were frequent without being interruptive. The space is cozy, and they shared that they will be moving to a larger building on North County Boulevard in Pleasant Grove soon. This is now one of my favorite restaurants and we will be back- often.
We sat next to a nice couple that heard us remarking it was our first time- they are regulars and had their wedding catered by Oteo. I got the impression that a number of the folks there were regulars. Once you find out about Oteo I think you come back.
We got the queso fundido which had a smoky richness to it with the thinnest sliced jalapeños I’ve ever seen. Very well balanced and delicious. The frutá is one of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted. My spouse said she could eat it every day of her life. I got Molote with pork and my spouse got the empeñada with Chicken- both were so good. We had churros for dessert and they were delicious and delightful.
I feel like Ron Swanson in Parks and Rec when I say that a recommendation from me is essentially a guarantee- but I’m guaranteeing you’ll be...
