I am excited for this place and I want to see this business succeed! The chicken salad and spicy crackers were my favorite, very flavorful and so good. The yams and Mac n cheese were damn good too and my husband liked the brisket. The family is so sweet and they put care and love into this place you can tell. I really liked them and I’m southern like they are so of course I have to give my love.
I have a few suggestions and gentle critiques because I used to be a professional chef and I genuinely want to see them succeed and stay here because we desperately need black owned businesses here. I expect the hiccups with a new business too because that’s just part of it.
They did mess up my order but I couldn’t go back because I had to make an event in Chicago. I think they either charged me for items I didn’t get or gave me the wrong one because I got a side of Mac n cheese instead. I spent about 79$ so I ordered a lot of stuff . I ordered collard greens and didn’t get them. It’s okay not a deal breaker.
The portions on the brisket meal sides were tiny (the Mac n cheese and beans only but the brisket portion was perfect) I know new places struggle with food costs but they were excessively tiny I think they should consider putting a little more.
I didn’t get enough crackers with my chicken salad , I needed a lot more but it was delicious.
The baked beans need more attention and care, they didn’t have enough flavor. This was the item that actually needed the most help in my opinion and with bbq meats you have to have killer beans. I know by tasting the other items that they can kick this up.
The brisket should have the option of some bbq sauce. I wasn’t offered any but that’s ok I had some from my last visit to Memphis. If it’s not available, I hope they consider adding it.
I will visit again, I really really really want to see them...
Read moreWe called in a carryout order; they said it'd be ready soon. He arrived and they said another fifteen minutes. We ordered the 3 protein 3 side family special that serves up to 6. My fiance got home and only ribs tips were in the container (it was a smaller order than the individual person orders at the other three bbq restaurants we frequent) and small individual sized sides. No pickled veggies, no bread. He calls, bags everything back up and heads back in. They just toss some pulled pork in the container that had the rib tips in it. My fiance questioned this and they said its only for four people. They added another container with a small amount of pulled pork and rib tips in it after discussing it. They also added additional containers of sides, four bread slices, and three corn cakes. This took an additional hour and twenty minutes.
Now to quality of the food. The rib tips were tough and so greasy they dripped when poking with my fork. The pulled pork was decent. The sides were subpar. The yams were mostly brown sickly sweet syrup with teenie tiny chunks of yam. The corn was alright, but nothing I'd write home about. The rice in the red beans and rice was a mushy ball of rice with no texture remaining as were the beans. They were also completely lacking any flavor or seasoning. We wanted to give them a try since they were local but looks like we'll be sticking with what we...
Read moreFirst time visit. We met the owners and they are just getting their footing in this new location. The restaurant is currently open Thursday thru Sunday with additional days coming soon. The food was really good. Rib tips and smoked sliced turkey were our meat choices. Many southern style sides available. We chose mac & cheese and the baked beans. The food was well prepared and tasted very good. The table service was provided by the owners and was just fine. The atmosphere is acceptable with some light jazz style music in the background. Nice little bar off of the dining area. All in all a decent place to try for southern style...
