This is a nifty little cafe just off the trail! Good tea, tasty confections, and it's convenient that you can just cycle up to it when in need of some fuel or a quick rest. :) There are shady trees to sit under further back from the main patio--nice atmosphere.
It is a little expensive, but so it usually goes with these things...I'd maybe take just half a star off for the prices, but they're not outrageous, so perhaps not.
My main gripe is the complete lack of vegetarian options on the breakfast and lunch menus. I was dismayed to discover that even the salads have meat! :P One would think that of all places, a cafe/coffee shop located such that it's mainly accessible to cyclists and pedestrians--active, healthier types?--would be more vegetarian friendly, at least. Even though savory lunch items aren't what you'd generally go for at a place like this, breakfast is, and that's still kind of a major disappointment. So, one-and-a-half stars off for that.
It would also be nice if they offered iced herbal "tea" (technically tisane) of some sort, as the passion fruit iced tea seems to be actual black tea, if I'm not mistaken, which is highly caffeinated and therefore dehydrating. Not exactly best in the middle of a strenuous bike ride or long walk on a hot summer's day...But that's a minor point, all things considered, and as such isn't reflected in my star rating. Just a little suggestion. :)
I would give it three-and-a-half stars, I suppose, if Google allowed a half-star option for individual ratings and there was at least one vegetarian...
Read moreI ride the platte trail many times over the last six months and had yet to try this spot until today. I wish I had visited sooner! They had a cup full of dog treats next to their cash register. The vibes were wholesome. The South Platte River + Mary Cary trails span over twenty miles and connect downtown Denver to Littleton and Englewood. Unfortunately, the trail is not shaded and there are about two public restroom and water station spots along this stretch. Nixon serves as an important rest point where people biking can catch a break, use the restrooms, and get a drink. I wish there are more coffee shops and bakeries that are right next to the trail. The ones that exist such as Table Public House and Nixon get a lot of love from non-car users. It was so busy this morning with many bikers and pedestrians out and about enjoying a beautiful sunny November day. One improvement that would be awesome is if the shop offers for stay mugs/cups to reduce on single use plastic packaging. There were a lot of bikers who hung out to enjoy their drinks before heading out so it would’ve been nice to save on their single-use cups. I did thoroughly enjoyed my 32 oz peachy lavender kombucha that they had on tap. I loved the variety of food and beverages that they offered. I hope this shop continues to thrive. Us bicyclists rely on...
Read moreOne ask of NCH: The menu posted on the building is horizontal. Please make one that's vertical and position it on the right (near the outer edge/corner of the building). The left 1/3 is hard to see (covered up by post and people who are crowding the window), when waiting in line. Old post: You walk-up and order, so long as it's 50 degrees or warmer. Closed when below 50 degrees outside. Lovely spot to people watch while enjoying a bite or a drink. Immediately west of Hudson Gardens and a stone's throw from the South Platte river. I recently discovered that every Saturday, a live, small, grass band performs outside. Not sure how the cold weather may change this (granted, NCH is closed when it's cold) but I was told this is a...
