Went to The Taco Spot after seeing their massive social media campaign prior to opening. Overall, I was more than just a little bit disappointed.
Experience: Immediately after entering the menu is placed on TVs quite high that are difficult to see unless you stand right in the door. The TV menus are not visible from the register so there is no referencing them when ordering. There also seemed to be plenty of staff working, but several of the tables were dirty when we went to sit. Leaving us to take a table that was the "cleanest" but not really clean. Overall the staff were really friendly and talked us through our order. The vibe inside is cool and modern feeling. There were two additional TVs seen from our table, one was playing a Roku screensaver and the other was off?
Food: We ordered both the Birria Ramen and the Surf and Turf burrito. Both were exactly okay. Neither was really impressive but neither was bad either. Birria Ramen is a commercial Tapatio Spicy Ramen bowl with Taco Spot birria sauce in it. They presented the included ramen seasoning on the side so we could mix in how much we wanted. Burrito was tasty, and did not rely on rice and bean fillers. Additional lime wedges and salsa was available.
Value: This is really where it fell off hard for me. Commercial ramen bowl with birria sauce and very very little meat was $13, and an unimpressively sized burrito which was the "special" was also $13. Top that with drinks that were $3.49 each and two small sized meals ended up just over $35? If these items had been amazing then I could justify the price, but for something that was below standard for other Mexican restaurants available, I was...
Read moreWe finally got to try the taco spot for the first time and it was such a great experience. There was a bit of a wait to order and get our food but it was totally worth it. The service was awesome. Everyone was super friendly and really attentive even with how busy it was.
What really stood out was the owner. You can tell he genuinely cares about the food and the people. He checked in with us personally to make sure everything was good and was super kind and welcoming. It made the experience feel personal and warm which you don’t get at a lot of places.
I had the quesabirrias and they were delicious. Crispy, cheesy, and full of flavor. My son ordered a carne asada burrito that was huge and packed with tasty tender meat. My husband went with a protein bowl that was loaded and super flavorful.
The kids loved the rice and beans, probably the most authentic tasting we’ve had in a while. We also tried the jamaica and it was super refreshing and just the right amount of sweet.
Overall we were really happy with everything from the food to the service. Definitely planning to go back soon and try more from the menu. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid flavorful meal with great portions, friendly staff, and an owner who truly goes...
Read moreCustomer service wasn't the greatest. The menu specifically states kids meals come with fries, and that was what was expected. They brought the food and served rice. My girls aren't the biggest fan of Spanish rice. So I asked the cashier, who also seemed to be the one in charge, and she said well the meal also comes with rice. I said that isn't what is advertised. She did replace the rice with French fries, but seemed extremely annoyed by having to do so and attitude was poor. Also, we were almost completely done with the meal when the fries were brought to the table.
Food was OK. Nothing exceptional really. I had the nachos. From the pictures I was expecting more than chips with a bit of meat and nachos processed liquid nacho cheese. Also, I asked for the jalapeños on the side. They put them on top. Honestly I could have done the same thing at home for a lot less than $13.
Also, the bathrooms were not on the clean side. My husband actually said he ended up using the women's because the men's was so gross and the toilet was plugged/ wouldn't flush. He said he was really bad. Truly the women's wasn't very...
