Red West, the younger of the two pizza joints of the same name being this one in Lomita -- with its big sister act a more high profile, architectural character and an important visual niche in the restaurant iconography of the older, larger port neighborhood of Wilmington, about 4 miles to the south east of Red West Lomita -- though both mark street addresses on legendary Pacific Coast Highway.
The food, perfectly balanced, thin crust, New York meets L.A. by way of the Italian Riviera fare, is thankfully uniform at both locations. But be warned of the Lomita spots only drawback: it's tiny and crowded. There's a great salad bar but the room given to stand and build your own salad is so narrow, many forgo the fresh fruit and vegetables and other toppings that beckon from your crowded, sometimes shared tables. Read moreGreat place for good Pizza. One thing that keeps giving is the Salad Bar. Yeah, it's only a one-trip option on their menu, but there are very few salad bars in a pizza place anymore. Take advantage of it while you can. Besides the typical 4-person booth option, you can easily bring 5 or more friends and hang out at the bench-style seating. Pitchers of beer are available and I can't remember a time when Beer and Pizza didn't go together. There's usually a game on the multiple TV's which means that if there's a playoff or popular team playing, you'll probably find a TV showing it. Friendly service at the counter is a huge plus! The pizza is round like a circle which I would sure say is a plus. The breadsticks are in the shape of a bread, which I would say is also a plus. Nice music playing, it was Life Would Be A Dream or something I think from Cars, for a minute I felt like a car myself, probably a blue car because blue is my favorite color. LOL!
