I first want to state that I have been visiting the island for over 20 years, so I know how busy the Dockside Diner can get. I was not interested in dining here, but decided to give the restaurant a try as my friends wanted to eat here. Before arriving, my friends told me that they had pleasant experiences at the restaurant in the past. Of course, since it was Labor Day weekend, we expected a wait. We walked up to the hostess and started to ask how long the wait was. The phone rang and in the middle of speaking with us, the hostess answered the phone and allowed another party to get in front of us on the wait list. I thought this was quite rude. Not only did the hostess completely interrupt us, but if a restaurant has customers waiting right in front of them, then you think the hostess would have assisted us first. It would not have been much to simply ask the other person on the phone to please hold. The hostess initially quoted us a wait time of 20-25 minutes for the four of us. However, she told us that our wait time would not be that long as there were larger tables in front of us that would take longer to be seated. We were perfectly fine with waiting 20-25 minutes to be seated. The weather was excruciatingly hot that day. After about 30 minutes of waiting, my friend walked up to the hostess to see where we were on the list. Parties that arrived after us were continuously being seated. Our name was next on the list. A group of three people who seemed to be friendly with the hostess put their names on the list as my friend was up there, and they only had to wait 3 minutes to be seated. It appeared like the hostess was seating her friends before us. We eventually waited over forty minutes to be sat, and even then, we were not actually seated by the hostess. After waiting for so long, my friend was able to grab seats at the counter. Our group would have been fine with waiting forty minutes if that was the actual time that was quoted to us. However, not only did the hostess say it would be twenty minutes, but she said it would be sooner than that. I would rather have been told it was a forty minute wait as opposed to getting frustrated after 30 minutes went by. Also, if you know you have a group of customers who have been waiting for thirty minutes in 90 degree weather, you think you would offer them a glass of water. Our service at the counter was great, but nothing could fix my experience. I ordered pancakes and they were probably the worst pancakes I ever had. They were completely tasteless and dry. It seemed like the rest of my party enjoyed their meals though. Safe to say that I will not...

Read moreReally great food. Especially the breakfast menu. My first experience here was 5 stars for the service and food. However the next time my boyfriend and I came here for breakfast our server, Victoria, barely seemed to want to help us. We asked for water three times politely before she finally brought it over and we were parched because we biked there. She never came to ask if we needed anything. Chase, the person who brought us our food did ask us, and he was a good listener. Victoria needs to focus more on doing one thing at a time. When I gave my card to pay for the check, she was walking around with the card in her hand taking orders from tables.. I was uncomfortable knowing that other people could just see my card info. I shouldn’t have to plead to simply get water and I wish she at least covered my card so others wouldn’t see it.
All in all, this experience won’t stop me from coming here again. It was just very frustrating this...
