tl:dr - Excellent pizza, good price, excellent appetizers, kind staff.
I've walked or driven by this place probably hundreds of times in the past several years. I've always said to myself "I really want to try that place." At first I thought they were a place like Mod Pizza or any of those other instant-style-build-your-own-pie places. They aren't. They are a proper pizza place.
I got the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and an order of the Garlic Knots.
The Pizza: The foundation of any good pizza is good crust that's baked well. This crust is perfectly done, and apparently not filled with extra additives to make it hyper palatable. What it is is a simple flat bread that does it's work perfectly and doesn't overwhelm or underwhelm. It lets the toppings shine. The cheese is portioned correctly. It's high quality cheese that melts and pulls well. It's not gummy, and it's not undercooked. It's perfectly melted. The chicken and buffalo sauce complimented each other very well. The buffalo sauce has a nice little kick without being overly spicy. There's a decent scent of vinegar to the sauce which makes me wonder if it's made in house. Kudos to you if it is, Flippin' Pizza.
The Knots: Garlic knots are easy to mess up. Under cooking them leaves them gummy and doughy. Overcooking them makes them more akin to pretzels without the flavor. These knots were cooked just right, with a nice light covering of garlic and butter. The Marinara they come with was nothing to write home about, but it was a nice compliment to the knots, which were delightful.
The lady who took my order was kind, attentive, and predicted my needs. She looked at me and it was clear I'd never been there before. I had the sense that she didn't recognize me, and is the type that recognizes previous customers or regulars. She immediately pointed me to where the menu is (a simple QR code) and told me she'd be right back to take my order. The QR code redirected me to the menu without a hitch. I ordered. She said 20 minutes, but it was probably more like 12 to 15.
I'll be coming back. I'm grateful for this pizza place being nearby. I'm not sure if they deliver or not, but I'm happy they're there. If I were still a Millikan student, I'd be there every day after water polo practice. Keep it up,...
Read moreI was overall unimpressed with Flippin' Pizza. It started off well, I found the place on Yelp and saw the good reviews. I was excited. When I entered, the place had a good atmosphere to it and the cashier was friendly and helped me get used to the menu. I ended up ordering a house salad, a slice of the buffalo chicken, and a slice of the Brooklyn. Around $12 total. As soon as I saw what they brought out I knew this wasn't going to be what I thought it was going to be. The toppings on the pizza slices looked sad and sparse. Tiny little pepperonis, a few chunks of chicken, and large vacant areas of just cheese. Kind of reminded me of a balding man's head when he only has a little hair left and is trying to use what he has to cover the empty space. The flavor of the pizza was good though and I enjoyed eating it. The salad had half good green lettuce and half yellow/white harder pieces. Since it was over $5 I was really expecting a better quality salad.
$12 could have gotten me a pretty decent dinner elsewhere that satisfied my appetite, and all these 5 star reviews now seem a little suspicious to me. I cannot see myself...
Read moreSaw this place while I was leaving a different store in the plaza and went in to grab a menu. When I first entered, I was greeted by the delicious smell of pizza cooking, a very relaxed atmosphere, and a pretty girl with a big smile. But, what really nailed it was when I spotted the Mirror Pond tap handle...I knew I was in the right place! I decided to jump in face first and order a whole pie...pepperoni, artichoke hearts, and gorgonzola. Pizza was done before I could finish my second pint, and I drink beer pretty fast. I was taking it home, but had to have a peek at it before I left. What a beautiful pie! Just the right amount of toppings...not too few, as to look like they were skimping on them, but not too many to be overpowering, as they are three very strong flavors. Got it home, and all I can say is, love at first bite. True New York style pizza! Since then, we've also had their salads and they are really fresh and tasty. Everyone there is super friendly and everything is very clean. You...
