LāMon — Restaurant in Long Beach

My husband and I went in to get a slice of ube cheesecake and a brownie. Just like in all of LB, there was no parking and we ended up parking 2 blocks away on a red curb. The place is small, stuffy and cramped. There was one couple in front of us and we barely fit. We had to constantly keep moving so they could get through. The desserts that were displayed looked like they were melting from sitting around in a hot room. The macrons were crumbling in their display. There was one staff member working. She didn’t acknowledge us until the first couple left (about 7 minutes). Not even a “Hi, I’ll be right with you,” as most places do. I found that awkward since like I said, it’s a small place and we were all just looking at each other.

The cheesecake was flavorful and creamy but the portion was TINY, I thought it was a joke. When we went in it was a quarter to closing time and the slice that she cut up was from an untouched batch so when I saw what I got I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. My husband’s brownie was bigger than my slice. As far as the quality goes for the brownie, he said it kept getting stuck to the roof of his mouth and that the flavor was just ok. He didn’t really care for it and said that there was no way he would have finished it without any milk.

Yes, this place is small. Rents are expensive in Long Beach. I just waited outside until the young man finished serving the lady who was already inside. I have been here twice and each time my family has loved what I got. We tried macarons, a cheesecake brownie, vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, ube cookie and regular chocolate chip cookie.
