Usually, when someone get's "La Chancla" (sandals/flip flops in Spanish), they've been bad. La Chancla Mexican Grill, however, is definitely good.
Handmade tortillas? Yes, please! Always on the hunt for flavorful food, my expeditions led me to La Chancla Mexican Grill in Long Beach. The standard options of carne asada, pollo asado & carnitas bore me at taquerias. So, when other meat choices are available, I go for them. Such was the case here, as I ordered an El Chanclazo chicaron plate.
The first thing I noticed was the melted cheese on top of the handmade corn tortillas. I thought they were keto taco shells, made entirely of melted cheese, which I've had at another place. The chicharon, itself, was soggy, not crispy, sopped up with juices. Not bad, just different from what I was expecting. The guacamole was creamy cool, the rice & beans filling & masterfully cooked. The horchata I had was refreshing, and not too sweet.
Service was good. The young woman working behind the counter was friendly & hospitable. La Chancla Mexican Grill is a small eatery, with a few indoor tables & a couple tables al fresco. No restroom. It is located on the right of Northgate Market.
I'm a payaso (clown in Spanish) for the El Chanclazo. La Chancla Mexican Grill serves up wholesome Mexican comfort food. In an infinite sea of taquerias, La Chancla is worth checking out the next time you have tacoencephalitis (tacos...
Read moreOrdered a steak burrito and got a veggie burrito. Called to let them know just in case they had made a mistake and given me another person's burrito, hoping the other person wouldn't get steak if they were in fact vegetarian. I didn't mind, I order from here a lot and wasn't calling to complain. I let them know that and it was like talking into one ear and out the other. The person changed to monotone and had zero empathy. They noted that the burrito was sitting for a long time and that I could get a free Taco. I tried to explain again that I wasn't calling to complain, and that I didn't appreciate being blamed for letting the food sit. The negative attitude and blame towards me felt unwarranted. I won't order from here again, it seems like they deal with a lot of mistakes, and not well in my opinion. Considering I called in a good mood, not to complain, and I left feeling spoken down to and like I was somehow cheated. The experience could only have been worse if I was actually upset about my order. Good food but be aware the service has been less than average a couple of times for...

Location: Long Beach off Cherry Ave. Small restaurant located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. It's almost tucked away in the corner but can't miss it with the beautiful and vibrant colors.
Service: Incredible, I didn't ask but it's obviously family owned and operated with welcoming service. After I was greeted I asked in return "how you are?" and they replied with "Living the Dream" such a beautiful answer.
Food: Amazing! A must try. Of course I had to try a little of everything but I really went for the tacos. Tacos are made with handmade tortillas and with juicy/flavorful meats. I got the combo that comes with 3 tacos and you can pick any of the meats available. Just a few of the meats they had were carnitas, asada, chicken, oh and they also had Soyrizo. I also had an order of the Agua Fresca, Loaded Fries, chips and Guacamole. Let me tell you I was not disappointed with anything, everything came out hot and ready to eat.
This place is such a great authentic spot, I can't wait to return to have some more.
See you...
