Category: Cocktail Lounge. After a wonderful tour of the Queen Mary, both guided and self-guided, we retired to this classy Art Deco bar to pretend like we were among the 800+ First Class passengers who made it their tippling home while crossing the Atlantic during the ship’s glory days. Located near the prow, the bar’s wall of windows provides an expansive view of Long Beach Harbor. The festive 1935 Alfred R. Thompson mural above the hardwood-paneled and aluminum-banded semicircular bar, “The Royal Jubilee Week,” depicts well-dressed dancers with joined hands — one of whom is King George V (where’s Waldo?) — circling a statue of a man on horseback. The understatedly opulent room is anchored and accented by large bright red urns and columns, and a red railing capping the cast-aluminum barrel-themed balustrade separating the upper and lower levels. We snagged one of the small cocktail tables along the windows, surrounded it with the comfy rolling club chairs for the five of us, and spent the next hour or so enjoying cocktails while Observing both the bar and the harbor’s sights. The menu offers shareable small plates and signature cocktails, but the bar can make anything. Whether you have just toured the ship or are hoteling onboard, or are just in the area, this is a unique place to relax, unwind, and soak up the historic ambience. YouTube’s...
