Stopped in for my first time this past weekend and I enjoyed my breakfast more than I anticipated. It's tucked away in a sleepy, quiet neighborhood part of Long Beach, which I really like because they don't have a dedicated parking lot so it will be street parking, but it's very easy to find in this part of LB. I would not really call this place a diner. It's more of a local hidden gem breakfast spot. Don't expect a giant menu or a coffee counter or other things that you would see at a traditional diner. That being said the food quality is really good and I feel the prices are fair. Our server was also very nice and everything that we ordered arrived quickly after placing our order. They have a few tables outside, but most seating is indoors, but it is quite small so there may be a wait if there are large groups in front of you. I started off my meal with a Caramel Steamer, which is basically like a cappuccino, but with caramel flavoring. For my meal, I chose the Chorizo Scramble and honestly really liked it. It came with a baguette on the side, which was a unique addition and the eggs and chorizo combo really hit the spot. It was also a good sized portion, but I was still able to finish it all. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone living in Long Beach or to anyone searching for a great local breakfast option.

The food here is great, order almost anything and you will definitely enjoy it. We got peach french toast, the chicken apple sausage breakfast and the beginner breakfast. The only difference between the sausage and the beginner was the sausage. They both had well seasoned potatoes, tasty scrambled eggs and a side of a baguette. The chicken sausage was sweet and savory all at the same time, definitely worth a try, at least once. The french toast was good but if you do not like cream cheese stuffed french toast I would recommend against this item. As for the actual restaurant, it is a very tight environment, think of a large cafe in Europe to get the vibe. But now as in music that is club level during breakfast all of this out together, I have to say DON'T EAT IN. And then there is customer service, because of how loud they keep it, the staff can't hear you so your order will be screwed up and may even have extra items or in your bill. So just be careful here.

The most exceptional thing about this diner is the service. We came in with a little less than an hr till closing and stayed about tweny minutes after and the staff never made us feel like an inconvenience. Mimosas start at $7 - no options for carafe or "unlimited" and most plates start at $10. The food was okay. The potatoes were dried out and old - not cool at all for a breakfast spot. A friend returned his plate because it was too salty and then it came back way too bland; he just didn't eat it. Another friend was assured her fruit would be on the side (she has allergies), it was not. For my end, my food (stuffed french toast) was amazing, even though they originally forgot the topping (Nutella) but I was the only person in my party who had no issue. For $120 for 5 people who each had one alcoholic beverage is about average for a good breakfast. This was just okay. I would go back for the service, maybe, not for the food since it was so hit and miss.

Came here this last weekend and it was a really nice experience. I was surprised that there was a diner just holed up in the middle of a Long Beach neighborhood. That is by no means a bad thing at all because one of my biggest fears of coming to Long Beach for a meal is the parking, the time commitment sometimes, and the traffic which it all avoided by being a little further away.

Lets start off with parking/location. Parking was extremely plentiful because it was in a neighborhood. I parked a little further away but it was still an easy walk. The location is of course a bit different because you do need to be looking for it in literally in the neighborhood.

Seating was easy and there is options for outside and inside. I was seated inside right next to the window so there was a "view" of the outside seating and the street. There is opportunities for bigger parties as well so no worries on that. The service was quick and attentive and they check-in with us multiple times throughout our meal and even when we were waiting for our friend to join us.

The food and beverages were delicious. I have the typical scrambled eggs and it came with tasty roasted potatoes, a piece of baguette as well as two slices of bacon. My friend got the Chorizo Scramble and the other got the Nutella Baguette. They were all delicious and would definitely come back. Out of everything I ordered, the potatoes were definitely the one that took the top spots. Who knew something as simple as potatoes can be made so perfectly. For drinks, I ordered the Cafe Au Lait which was basically Iced Coffee with Creamer and toped with bits of chocolate.

Overall, coming to Starling Diner was a great experience. Everything was delicious and the service was superb. The environment felt so warm and welcoming and I would definitely be...

My friend and I had lunch here today for Mother's Day. It was only a little but of a wait which was nice since it was Mother's Day. At first you wouldn't have expected a restaurant to be in this neighborhood full of houses. But walking up, it was very quaint and a picturesque brunch spot!

Between the two of us we really wanted to try the French toast so we both got a salad and shared the French toast. We got the: Kyoto salad Blue crab salad San Francisco French toast

I really enjoyed my blue crab salad. It had great flavor. The dressing was perfect with the fresh crab flavor. I had a bite of the Kyoto salad and really enjoyed the sesame flavor of the dressing. The French toast was to die for! I don't usually like French toast, but this baguette style French toast was beautifully flavored with berries and sweetened just perfected. I am not a favor to super sweet things and creme was on point. The only other French toast I like is gourmet pie on kattella in cypress, but that one is super sweet and you can only have a few bites of it.

Definitely will come back. My only gripe is that it took a long time for the food to come out and I think it might have been because of Mother's Day, but the food was worth the wait. I'll have to come back and try the scones. I have to say maybe one of the best breakfast/lunch diner...

Starling Diner is a place that we've been meaning to try out for months and months when we wake up hungry and lazy on a Saturday or Sunday, but since it's across town we usually choose to eat closer to home. Finally on Valentine's Day 2015 we made the trip! At 10 am we knew there would be a wait and we were told 45 minutes. Being a special day and since we already made the trip we decided to stick it out. Had we wanted to eat at the counter (there is a counter) or outside (there is outside seating, but no alcohol allowed) we could have been seated in about 20 minutes. 45 minutes after we arrived, we were seated inside at a table. Hey, we know what we want! We ordered the basket of scones and the Stuffed French Toast to split between my wife and I. The scones were good, but dry like all scones. I really enjoyed the lemon curd and special butter that accompanied. The Stuffed French Toast is every bit as good as the legends foretold! It is plenty for 2 people to share. My wife got the Pear Mimosa... or something like that. It was delicious. I got coffee. They said it was Winchester Coffee... All I know is it was more than just Farmer Bros. Even though there is usually a long wait, I think we'll be back the next time we don't feel like making breakfast (or brunch depending on how lazy we are about getting out of bed)...
