We went to eat here on Friday night for the Shabbat meal. Adult meals are $150 a plate and children are $100. The children meals consist of 3 chicken nuggets on a plate.
The manager was incredibly nice and warm and even moved our seat to one with a better view without our prompting. On this basis alone I will award 2 stars but unfortunately this was the highlight of the meal… I will rate each course below
First course: 5/5 Challah and dips were delicious, wine was a nice touch and classy, sodas were a plus. Coming to a nicely set Shabbat dinner is always a treat
Second course - 3/5 Salmon was overcooked and dry, Gefilte was the best thing on the plate
Third course- 2/5 Soup came out cold and needed salt. We had to ask for a hot soup as well as all the tables around us. Second go was better but still needed salt. Croutons were a nice touch but were a bit stale
Fourth course - 1/5 Chicken breast was dry and overcooked to the point of being inedible, the brisket was the size of a grape (I overheard the table next to me asking for a larger piece) overly salty but tasty, fingerling potatoes were plain and boring.
Fifth course - 1/5 Dessert was disgusting. The chocolate lava cake tasted like it came out of a pesach cookbook, ice cream was fine, fruit was not ripe enough.
Service - 3/5 The servers were working very hard and were very good. The issue is that they had no idea what course we were up to so at the end of every course we kept getting asked things like “did you get soup yet” “have you gotten mains”. They need to get some organization so that things come out in order with a set waiter.
Each one of these faults was confirmed with others eating there so I know it was not just us. I spoke with someone who went shabbas day and they said the food was substantially better so I am hoping this was a one off.
Lastly, I do want to comment on something that effected my hotel neighbor but not myself. On the website it gives the Option to reserve the meal from 7pm all the way until 9pm. However, the meal is not served until 8:15. My neighbor came with a family of 4 kids am hoping to have the kids in bed on time but had to wait until marriv was completed to begin being served even though he booked for 7:30. This is clearly an oversight and needs to...
Read moreFirst off, I never write reviews for restaurants but I feel like Salt deserves this review. For reference we were in a party of 6 for my 20th birthday and you can expect to spend about $150-200 per person once you account in tax and tip. First things first, the restaurant is gorgeous inside and out and it’s located at the beautiful pier village in Long Branch. Parking is quite difficult during summer and early fall but I’m sure during winter it wouldn’t be a big problem. Now onto the restaurant itself, Christian was our waiter, he was extremely attentive and never once did we have to wait extremely long to get refills on our drinks and place orders, and he was extraordinarily meticulous when it came to making sure we were taken care of the whole time. About half of our table got appetizers and they came out extremely quickly despite being a rather busy night. The Sea bass and chips appetizer was delicious, and same goes for the duck liver mousse and the crispy beef dumplings. Another great plus is they have a very nice selection of non-alcoholic cocktails for either people that are not of age or just don’t like drinking alcohol. I personally had the tropical paradise and it was fantastic. Onto the main course. Everything was fantastic. Our table ordered a wide variety of food, so we got a taste of a lot of the different stuff Salt has to offer. The Chilean sea bass, the Chateu de Beoufe, the short ribs, the burger, the BBQ burnt end sandwich and finally the Chimichuri hanger steak were all absolutely delicious. Neither me nor my party had any complaints with the food at all. Christian also arranged for the wait staff to bring out my dessert with a candle and paired it with singing happy birthday which was a very appreciated gesture. The carrot cake was phenomenal and so were the Japanese donuts. Overall, I want to thank Salt for the amazing food and amazing service provided for not only me but my entire party and making the night extraordinarily special and memorable. I will definitely be back...
Read moreMeter street parking or there is a garage next door, for $20. Place has a modern vibe. Made reservations on a Sunday night, but wasn't necessary. Place was very busy, but there were open tables. Food was good, but way over priced. The staff was amazing. There was a very difficult guest sitting next to us, that sent her steak back 3 times because she didn't want to taste the grill (what!). The staff and management team handled it with patience and grace---amazing how patient they were. We ordered the duck and waffles for appetizer, and a bowl of the soup of the day which was a corn puree. Duck and waffles was delicious, tender red and juicy--so good. The corn soup was a bit bland and not worth $17---it's soup. I opted for the $46 salt signature burger which is not just ground beef, it's a mixture of meats. I was expecting a really good burger but it was very dense and slightly over cooked and had a weird texture (I asked for medium cook and it was well done--i dont send back food unless its unedible, it was still edible and tasted good). Husband got the rib eye, he loved it. Great cook and flavor on the steak. While the staff was very attentive and wonderful, the service was slow....I'm pretty sure it was due to the chick next to us sending her stuff back so many times (eyeroll). I have dined at high end/expensive restaurants before, this was by far one of the most expensive. We will likely not return due to the cost. They do add gratuity to the bill, which I never like (high end or not). In the end, the staff earned their tip, but we likely won't return due to the over pricing. $240 for the 4 items I just mentioned is a bit much---with no cocktails, we had bottled water...
